HiDPI works really well in Fedora 21 according to Ryan.
HiDPI on GNOME Software
works well (other than screenshots and icons) --
There are some rough edges in other areas (Firefox being one). But if an
app is GTK3 -- HIDPI works fantastic.
Here are a few screenshots of GNOME Software on a high DPI screen just
as a reference to this discussion.

For the record, these were taken on a Lenovo x1 Carbon with a high DPI
screen (2560x1440, 14 inch screen -- approx 180 DPI)
