It was discussed that perhaps we should simplify our repository layout, and make a mongo repo for -driver, -framework, and maybe - client-ruby. I've done a candidate merge with git-filter-branch, preserving history across all of the repos into a single merged repo. I've staged it upon my GitHub account: http://github.com/bobmcwhirter/deltacloud-merge You can view merged commit history here: http://github.com/bobmcwhirter/deltacloud-merge/commits/master If this looks roughly good, I'll finish tidying up (making a top-level COPYING and a README), adjust the -framework startup code to look for drivers in the right place. Then we'll need to figure out where in FedoraHosted we want it to live. Do we want to get a fresh repo (just plain "deltacloud" ?) and push there? What's the process for getting a new repo? After that, we'll want to destroy the old no-longer-relevant repos. Thoughts, comments and feedback muchly appreciated. Thanks, -Bob

Driver instance states

Howdy-- It's a non-functional change, unless you're a driver author, but I've created a more literate way to specify the states and transitions an instance might go through. http://github.com/bobmcwhirter/deltacloud-merge/blob/master/server/lib/de... Looks like: pending.to( :running ) .automatically pending.to( :stopped ) .on( :stop ) The .xml representation is unchanged, as is the client that consumes it. This purely makes writing drivers a tad easier. Flavors, hardware profiles, etc

Howdy folks-- Been thinking about the flavor/hardware problem some, and he's my initial thoughts: We should remove "flavors" as they exist now, and replace them with "hardware profiles" (or some other name). These would specify the different profiles available, in terms of min/ max capabilities for each profile. For a cloud provider with completely flexible instances, it might have 1 profile something akin to memory: 0GB-64GB, default=2gb disk: 0GB-1TB, default=200gb cpu: 1-8, default=2 For something like EC2, min==max, and it'd have a profile per instance type. Upon instantiating an instance from an image, you'd select, and optionally parameterize a hardware profile for the instance. EC2, no parameterization/customization is possible. For RIMU etc, you could feed it what you want. We may also need a flag indicating mutability of the hardware post- launch, in case a provider allows adding CPU/disk/RAM on-the-fly. Thoughts? -Bob

Provider infomation

I've created a page on the wiki that gives a little bit of info about RimuHosting and the way we do things. It would probably be good if we had a similar thing for rhev-m, rackspace, ec2 and other providers, as not everyone is fimilar with all the providers (and that makes having discussions about deltacloud design harder imo) https://fedorahosted.org/deltacloud/wiki/Providers Thoughs? deltacloud license

I'm interested in deltacloud but I got stumped by the following statement on the deltacloud.org front page: "Deltacloud API and Portal are free and open source (LGPL, GPL)". Could someone explain this? I looked at the API definition <http://deltacloud.org/api.html> and I don't see any mention of license there. What is licensed around deltacloud and what is the status of the API and API definitions? Thanks, Thorsten - CTO RightScale
