#31: Package MGEN/PARIS IC Design Environment

This is a set of ASIC design tools developed by Atmel and others. They
were previously used as in-house tools as well as being offered
commercially, but are now released under LGPL. Besides the Layout Module
Generator Environment MGEN, it also includes the PARIS layout editor and
accompanying utilities such as the hierarchical comparison tool LAYDI and
the boolean operation server MERGED (released to use with GPL by AISS, now
PDF-Solutions).
The kernel of the MGEN system consists of a library containing a set of
fundamental functions for creation and manipulation of geometric objects
and cells. Based on these functions is a set of higher level functions for
the synthesis of more complex structures. MGEN programs can communicate
with other tools in different standard interface formats.
PARIS is a technology-independent hierarchical layout editor which can
make use of the MGEN functions, and supports both full-custom and cell-
oriented IC design. It includes a (Korn-shell-derived) command language.
Update
Now also includes MANIAC, a very flexible graphic viewer for numerical
data (e.g. from SPICE or commercial simulators) as well as many (mostly
internal) improvements and bug fixes.

[Fedora-electronic-lab] KtechLab bug
by Tom varghese
I am using old FEL live CD (fedoar 10) and found a bug on
Ktechlab. Every time right clicking on a component makes it crash and cause
abrupt close. I don't know whether it is debugged. I don't know how to
formally report a bug since I am a beginner.

[Fedora-electronic-lab] Fwd: gEDA-user: Invitation: Linux Fund/gEDA party at OSCON in San Jose
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello there,
If you are a gEDA/gaf user or a FEL user, I think you may find the
following interesting

Subject: gEDA-user: Invitation: Linux Fund/gEDA party at OSCON in San Jose
To: gEDA user mailing list
Hi --
Just a quick note. As part of the open-source conference OSCON, Linux Fund
has invited developers and users of the gEDA Toolset to a party! The party
details are here:
http://www.linuxfund.org/press/anniversary/
As you probably know, Linux Fund has established a project to gather donations
so that various usability improvements may be built into gEDA/PCB. This is a
high-profile project which we hope will pave the way to improving uptake of
gEDA with all users, but particularly amongst newbies.
I believe a few invitations to the LF party were already sent privately to
folks who have contributed both to LF and to PCB and are in the Silicon Valley
area. Thank you to those contributors!
It would be nice to see other gEDA fellow travelers go to the party. The
event is in San Jose from July 20 -- 24. You'll have the chance to meet
other gEDA users, as well as be exposed to a larger F/OSS ecosystem.
Details about OSCON are here:
http://en.oreilly.com/oscon2009
FWIW, I'm not going since it's 3000 miles away from me. :-( But if you're a
Silicon Valley local (or will be there for some reason), and are interested in
attending, drop me an e-mail (sdb (AT) cloud9 (DOT) net) and I'll put you in
touch with the relevant people.
Cheers,
Stuart

[Fedora-electronic-lab] Call for testing : eclipse for HDL IP development and documentation
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello there,
With the help and support from Fedora Eclipse team, this week we've
set up 3 plugins for HDL IP development and documentation.
These plugins has been filed for package review.
* eclipse-eclox - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506429
* eclipse-texlipse - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506431
* eclipse-veditor - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=505017
These plugins will help digital IC designers/FPGA designers develop
Verilog/VHDL code on eclipse. veditor, the eclipse plugin for HDL
provides a realtime error and warnings notification of typos, missing
signals, unnecessary signals etc..
If the vhdl code entails doxygen style comments, a pdf can be
autogenerated and used either during internal meetings or sent to the
client.
Since the pdf is generated from latex, the texlipse plugin will
provide some additional page layout formatting and easy pdf creation.
One thing which impresses me is that the pdf creation is now only
Ctrl-S, rather than a manual click like one would do on kile. That
said, if these plugins enter fedora repostories, I will remove kile
from the FEL livedvd.
Other additional plugin worth talking are epic for perl, egit for git
and subclipse (and are yum-able). Hence if your perl scripts well can
be properly maintained along side with your HDL code. With either
cvs,git or svn you can share, distribute and manage your hdl code and
scripts for digital designed.
These eclipse plugins will ease the entrace of a new feature for F-12
: Collaborative Code review. I will talk about it later on.
The following screenshot will give you an idea what I want to achieve.

If you are interested in testing, you can find the

Kind regards
Chitlesh
