It should work on desktops too.
Note that nearly no desktop has a dimmable background lighting, which
makes all kinds of brightness control apps next to useless.

The Fedora i3 Spin is intended to be minimal but functional, that's why
tons of software that can be useful isn't added by default, but we are
talking to include it in the "extended" package group [1]. redshift is in
fedora's repositories, so you can easily install it with dnf.
I think that we shouldn't add redshift by default to the spin, after
all, not everyone will want to use it and installing it is really
simple, especially once we have the extended package group in place. If
we were talking about creating a ostree based spin, then this would be a
completely different discussion of course.
