I have to correct myself. Not every email, as mine was delivered
without the From header altered. So maybe this is a SPF-only issue? If
the SPF record prohibits resending, there's not much the mailing list
can do than replacing the From field. Also, Reply-To is set correctly.
It only applies to users who's providers have a strict setup.
(ie, if resending to list subscribers will result in a fail on checks)
So, it is probably the right setting after all, sorry for the
confusion.
However, the footer should be removed anyway as it breaks the original
DKIM signatures.
Many other things do that too. Mailman inserts list headers, and
sometimes adjusting mime type emails.
re-writing such emails to appear to come from the list seems the least
anoying way to deal with it.
