Well, I'm really confused about this. The time and timezone was OK in the XO after reinstalling the original syncing and through several reboots or shutdown/restarts (without network connection). After few hours off (charging) the time is all messed up again. The hwclock has the correct time. The /etc/localtime file after the binary content keep saying "EST5EDT,M3.2.0,M11.1.0" (the original setting of this build) no matter what timezone you select in the control panel. Even if you copy the correct timezone file to /etc/localtime the time does not change and is still wrong. Selecting another timezone in the control panel changes none of the /etc/localtime, /etc/avahi/etc/localtime and /etc/adjtime but the time does change (always wrong time). Which file does the control panel changes?
Test case: 'ntpdate -b' the XO and set a timezone. The time is correct but the
/etc/localtime file shows something different.
Let the XO off for some time (o/n) check the time _without_ an ntp update and network connection, the time is 4 hours ahead of the correct time. hwclock time remains correct.
/etc/localtime, /etc/avahi/etc/localtime and /etc/adjtime content does not change with timezone changes but time does (right or wrong).
Is it designed to default to some specific timezone without a network connection? And if yes what about when kids have the XO at home probably without a network connection? Can you have correct time without network?

What level Sugar Activities on F11 ?
by Mikus Grinbergs
I asked once before, but got no answer:
| When the XO-1.5 on F11 software is eventually deployed (e.g.,
| installed by the factory), what level of Sugar will it provide ?
I just installed 'write-66.xo' on a Parrish XO-1 build on my XO-1.
It failed to launch, because its python code could not find any
module called 'toolbarbox' (to import classes from).
I see that the recent SoaS3 build (which has a preliminary Sugar
0.86) provides a 'toolbarbox' module - but Sugar 0.84, which is what
the Parrish XO-1 builds have, does not. What I want to know is
whether it would be worthwhile for me to sooner or later try out
'write-66', or whether I should plan to do my XO Activity testing
only with 0.84-compatible Activity versions.
Please:
Is XO-1.5 software expected to run Activities marked "for 0.86" ?
Thanks, mikus

OK, I'll give it some thought. Probably just making a gconf setting
would be the best approach, and that's also what GNOME does.

Another F11 build for the XO-1 has been released
by Steven M. Parrish
I have released a new build of F11 for the XO-1 named OS4
You can find it at.... http://dev.laptop.org/~smparrish/xo-1/builds/
This new build includes the addition of the ImageViewer, Physics and Jukebox
Activities, an update to the Write Activity, and the kbdshim and powerd
packages.
I have also included the md5sum for the .img and .iso
Keep in mind this is a full OS image and installing it will result in the loss
of all data on your XO-1.
The usual cautions apply: this is development code, there will be
bugs. Installation instructions: use copy-nand to install os4.img with
os4.crc.

What level Sugar Activities on F11 ?
by Mikus Grinbergs
When the XO-1.5 on F11 software is eventually deployed (e.g.,
installed by the factory), what level of Sugar will it provide ?
My reason for asking is that some Activities now available on the
SugarLabs website are marked "for 0.86". Although I only have
XO-1s, if there are some Activities which will not be supported by
the 2009 OLPC release (1.5), then I might as well limit my testing
on F11 to supported-in-2009 Activity versions (e.g., to 0.84).
Is XO-1.5 software expected to run Activities marked "for 0.86" ?

Once I've ironed out the process, sure. For now you can see the
package and size deltas using the obvious *-changes.txt files, and
I'll reply to this thread when I get a new build out.

Yes, soon. In the meantime, this is a compressed tar file with one
sparse file in it that is a set of partitions, the one member of which
is an ext3 filesystem:
http://people.sugarlabs.org/~mtd/soas-xo1/soasxo50.removable.img.tar.lzma
...which is a mouthful to describe but useful to use like:
cat soasxoXX.removable.tar.lzma | lzma -dc - | tar xf - -O - > /dev/sdX
... in order to get a 4GB removable drive (subject to the dangers of
re-partitioning said drive[1]) with a ext3 partition for booting on an
XO-1. Right now one has to edit its olpc.fth appropriately so it
boots from the USB/SD device one is using, but I will be rebuilding an
image with a better olpc.fth soon now that I've got a key OFW tip.
From that process I will get:
soasxoXX.iso - iso9990 file system (for use with livecd-iso-to-disk)
soasxoXX.img - for ...
soasxoXX.crc - ... copy-nand'ing
soasxoXX.plc - ... NANDblast'ing
soasxoXX.removable.img.tar.lzma - for dd'ing to a removable device
soasxoXX.tree.tar.lzma - for untarring, hacking, and re-tarring as you
want to do
I hope to merge the build changes necessary to soas's main git repo so
we can get similar artifacts out of SoaS3 builds soon.
I can do something similar for F11-on-XO-1 if that's interesting to
the F11-on-XO-1 people.
