RE: More proposed get.fpo adjustments, based on user feedback
by Sijis Aviles
I'm all for this. I think the changes are great.
+1
A quick thought about that architecture tab would be replacing it with an advanced tab, which would include the stuff in get-fedora-all. We can discuss this further.
One question - what would we do about the older releases?

Subject: More proposed get.fpo adjustments, based on user feedback
Hi,
We've gotten some feedback on the new get.fpo design and I think there
are a couple of major mistakes in the design (and I take full
responsibility for them):
- completely lack of live usb documentation
- we link to archives but we don't link to torrents, mirrors, etc etc
etc
Attached is a patch that adds instructions for liveusb to the main page,
and swaps out the archives link in the right sidebar to an 'advanced
users' link that points to get-fedora-all which has a lot of the links
that the more technical folks are complaining aren't there. I've also
attached a screenshot so you can see what some of these changes look
like.
Let me know if there's any issues with this patch. I think that it's
worth applying to address the concerns of the more technical users.
I also think we should consider dropping the architecture tab at some
point. I was going to try to do that in this patch, but it causes a
number of other issues that are a bit too hairy to get into at the
moment and I wanted to get this patch out ASAP.
Thanks,
~m

Wrong encoding on russian digest

Hi! I'm receiving mail from trans-ru as a digest and I see something like this:

So, letter is in utf-8, but it shows each message was send in koi8-r, but I don't see each message as a message, so all I get is a lot of ?'s. Please fix it just to use utf-8 everywhere. Thank you.

Wiki syntax change?
by Ian MacGregor
I just visited my wiki profile page:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Ardchoille42
I noticed in that table on the right side of the page, the lines
separating the cells are missing. I checked Paul Frields' page just to
see if his was similarly affected and it is. The cell lines were there a
couple of days ago.
Did someone recently make a change that impacts the syntax on the wiki?

" Broken" documentation site
by Jeán van Wyk
Hi there,
I am writing to mention that your documentation site specifically :
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/13/html/Installation_Guide/...
eg.
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/13/html/Installation_Guide/sn-...
is "broken" if you do not allow cookies.
I understand that your navigation menu works with cookies and that you
want to inform people that it will not work correctly if they disable
cookies. At the same time there is nothing more irritating than being
told the same thing over and over again.
Your documentation website pops up a window on EVERY single page if you
have cookies disabled that tells you that :"ATTENTION: The Navigation
Menu requires cookies to be enabled to function correctly.".
The fact that I do not like cookies does not mean that I have to be
haunted to death by the popups telling me the same thing over and over
and over... If you put that warning in the red blob at the top of the
navigation and make the information portion non red I will still be
"warned" but at least the website will be functional.
Yes I understand that you REALLY want me to enable cookies abut at the
same time I REALLY, REALLY do not want to enable cookies especially only
for a navigation menu. I preferred by far your previous single page (if
admittedly huge documentation) than getting a popup every few seconds
that tells me something that I already know.
Please forgive my spewing but it really got up my nose. (FYI. I design
and implement websites as part of my day job.)
Thank you for you time. I hope you can fix this easily.
Regards
Jeán van Wyk

Regarding Get Fedora page - from fedora-list
by Jud Craft
I was told that issues with the website should come here. I hope I'm
not intruding as I'm not a contributor.
I had previously posted regarding the Get Fedora page...asking, what
exactly happened to it?
It was beautiful in the F12 release, and this morning it was nothing
but a list of links that dived between the five categories
[Architecture, Format, etc] like a strange maze. And no mention of
BitTorrent links was to be found anywhere.
I had to google to find the Fedora BitTorrent page, luckily. And
right now, the download page has been tidied up, and looks pretty
good. But, it still contains no mention, as far as I can tell, to the
torrent links, and it's definitely a step down from the F12 version.
I appreciate that it has improved since this morning, but is this only
temporary, or is it an intentional design change? I rather liked the
old one.

.torrent files (Impossible to find)
by Jake Kromer
Howdy Web Master(s),
I have been searching and searching on the site to download Fedora 13
and basically found it nearly impossible to find the .torrent files. I
had to Google it just to come to find out it was as easy as
http://torrent.fedoraproject.org. This is slightly upsetting. I am not
new to the computer world and have found it always easy to find .torrent
files for other Linux distros and I would like to send people your way
but I'm afraid that if I have issues finding .torrent files on your
site, others who aren't as tech savvy as I will never find them.
Sometimes more is more, don't be afraid to give a slew of options for
downloads. It'll give less strain on your servers and make it more
readily available.
Can't wait to check out the finished 13 in about half an hour once it's
done loading.
