I don't recall a discussion of the Test_Day: namespace, so I'm a
bit unclear how it works. Someone pointed out a vandalized page
today, and below is the discussion I had with Adam.
Ideas for solutions here? I don't like the idea of an endless supply
of vandalizeable pages, esp. without a regular group patrolling the
edits for vandalism.
10:23 < quaid> heffer pointd this out -
https://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=Test_Day:2009-07-21_Fit_and_Fin…
10:23 < quaid> adamw: do you have a policy of moving Test_Day:
pages to a requires-auth-to-write after the test day is done?
10:24 < quaid> that's how the FUDCon: space is managed
10:24 < adamw> quaid: no, not yet...how do you work that?
10:24 < quaid> ideally only one or two fudcon pages are write-by-all,
we watch and revert spam as we go, then when the event
is done, we move it to FUDCon/
10:24 < quaid> adamw: you should be able to just move the page back to
the Main namespace by doing a rename (move) and taking
out the colon
10:25 < quaid> as long as the categories remains the same, the
redirect is automatically made for you
10:25 < adamw> mhhh...i don't like doing a bunch of renames
10:25 < quaid> normally, no
10:25 < adamw> yeah i know but you can wind up with nested redirects
and stuff
10:25 < quaid> there is a special page for catching double-redirects
10:26 < adamw> there wouldn't be a fix in this case
10:26 < adamw> well, there would, but it'd require manual updating of
the links...bah. hmm.
10:26 < quaid> really? a redirect wouldn't work?
10:26 < adamw> (we need to be able to have a page name with just the
date that re-directs to the real page)
10:26 < quaid> hmm
10:26 < adamw> so Test_Day:2009-07-21 needs to be 'valid' as a
redirect to the final name
10:27 < quaid> makes sense ...
10:27 < adamw> that way you can write a script or whatever that can
reliably point to the test day page for a specific date
10:27 < quaid> are you on the (low traffic)
fedora-wiki(a)lists.fedoraproject.org list?
10:27 < adamw> er, a _given_ date
10:27 < adamw> i don't remember, i'm on lots of lists :)
10:27 < quaid> heh
10:27 < quaid> I'll bring up this situation, if you are there you'll
see, or we'll tell you to come join up
10:27 < adamw> we could swing that, it's just that we'd have to adjust
the redirects for the date-only pages all the time
too. which would be a bit more pain.
10:28 < adamw> not sure if doing the renames or fixing the vandalism
is more trouble...
10:29 < adamw> also, we do want people to be able to post results
after the day is done
10:29 < quaid> ah, hmm
10:30 < adamw> there's no reason not to allow that, really. and people
do go back and look over the older pages.
10:30 < quaid> it just seems that the # of vandalizeable pages
increases a lot over time
10:30 < adamw> i suppose if we were going to 'lock' them off again
after a specified period we'd do it at the end of the
release cycle...
10:30 < adamw> yeah, i understand
10:31 < adamw> it's a shame we can't have a limited-editing mode or
something, heh

I don't see why not. Copy the code of the page into something under
your user space, edit it there, transclude it into your user page
(with , make it the name of the page),
double and triple check that it works, and then copy that code back into
the actual template when you know it works.
