Release events - http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/ReleaseEvents
FrancescoUgolini want to invite everyone to make something for the F9
release event. Just take a look at this mail from Jeffrey:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-ambassadors-list/2008-April/msg000...
Release Events are important because they are the final piece of a
long and hard development process. He know this year we announced it
late but he hope you could create something.
Clean-up the Ambassadors parts on the wiki
The members of FAmSCo deleted a lot of obsolete pages but there are
still many pages left. This pages needs some work on them. Check
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/SteeringCommittee/CleanUpPages
if you are able to help us improve our part in the fedora wiki. BTW,
soon we will migrate to mediawiki. The test instance is available at
https://publictest1.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Main_Page . MaxSpevack said
that the impact of the migration on Ambassadors should be minimal. But
Fedora Infrastructure will be very pleasant to hear from you if you have
experience with mediawiki, especially with the migration from moinmoin
to mediawiki.
FrancescoUgolini sent the announcement
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-ambassadors-list/2008-April/msg001...
Please check your personal wiki page if all data are up-to-date. We
have several Ambassadors with invalid email addresses and some who still
have there name.surname(a)fedoraproject.org addresses on the wiki. Please
verifiy also if your CategoryAmbassadors(+Country) entry is still valid.
Polo shirts
You have 2 days left to place your order at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/PoloShirt for LinuxTag.
Ambassadors Membership
As of 2008-04-14, 352 Ambassadors have been verified (signed CLA and
joined 'ambassadors' group). The Ambassadors statistics page (
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors/Statistics ) will hopefully be
updated soon with more accurate numbers. FabianAffolter will use his
script as long that we have no better option to generate some statistics
through FAS2. FranescoCrippa made some improvements his "stats" script.
Now it runs also for "EditGroup" page or other "group" pages. He have
also made a small project based on turbogear to put charts online
automatically. Helping hands are welcome.
Events
Past events
For OpenExpo visit
http://fabaff.blogspot.com/2008/03/openexpo-2008-berne-collection.html
for details about this event and for Notacon
http://axelilly.wordpress.com/2008/04/09/event-report-fedora-at-notacon-5/
(not an European event).
DimitrisGlezos reported about the FOSSComm that the event was a success.
His talk attracted a lot of people (mostly FOSS contributors, not new
users) and he recruited 2 Google Summer of Codes for L10n/Transifex.
They handed out 200 CDs, too. There is a Greek blog post:
http://dimitris.glezos.com/weblog/2008/03/26/fosscomm-recap and some
pictures http://dimitris.glezos.com/photos/various/fosscomm08/
Upcomming events
Fedora day, Cairo
DiaaRadwan will have Fedora day on one of the largest universities on
Egypt. So far there are some issues with the customs. MaxSpevack sent
DiaaRadwan a bunch of Swag to support Fedora Day in Egypt. The outline
on the sessions will be: FOSS and history of GNU/Linux, fedora,
benefits, and how to contribute. The second: Preparing development
environment on fedora based server or shell scripting session. This the
first event I co-organize as fedora ambassador. First session will be
FOSS and history of GNU/Linux, fedora, benefits and how to contribute.
second one would be either preparing development environment on fedora
based server or shell scripting session. <diaa> the expected attendees
are 90 on the first one and 40 on the second. <diaa> unfortunately, the
event is before the release of 9.
Grazer Linuxtage, Linuxdays in Geneva, and OpenSource Expo will be
removed from the Fedora Events list because there will be no attendance.
JoergSimon said that OpenSource Expo will be not far from his place but
the problem is that it is right in front of LinuxTag. MaxSpevack wants
to focus all our effort on LinuxTag. GeroldKassube mentioned that we
are to less Ambassadors to handle every event and we have to less money
for covering all this things. Another issue is that we have no support
by Red Hat (in Europe) right now.
Froscon
MaxSpevack will submit a talk and plan to attend the show, if it is
accepted. JeroenVanMeeuwen will submit a a talk, too.
liberaMENTE
LucaFoppiano said that they will go to use the automaic Fedora Live USB
Key creator. FrancescoCrippa will give a talk about the Fedora Community
LinuxTag
We have 21 attendees and a place to sleep. But there is still a lot of
work left. The booth setup call is already out
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents/LinuxTag/LinuxTag2008/BoothSetup
. GeroldKassube said that our booth will be raised up to max. 20 sqm
(not only 16qm). He will have a meeting with the Linuxtag projects
board on 2008-04-26 (also) to discuss that point. But there are only
450 sqm for more than 75 free projects and we will get one of the
biggest size :-( Because of that issue he decided to cancel the
troubleshooting contest (because it's not ready right now) and we try to
keep our focus on the gadget with "get your USB stick filled here". The
order of the Fedora Ambassadors Polo shirt will be done next week.
JensKuehnel is working on the preparation of the FUDCon. He is looking
for some speakers, especially for a speaker about FreeIPA or cobbler.
JoergSimon confirmed the talk from ThibaultNorth. And JeroenVanMeeuwen
will send an abstract before midnight. MaxSpevack will try to organize
a talk about cobbler.
Status of the NPO
We are still waiting for official confirmation. GeroldKassube believe
the registration will be fullfilled within the next days.
Open Floor
<snip>
<GeroldKa> we will have two female at the booth

<fabian_a> GeroldKa,
<GeroldKa> booth-size
<GeroldKa> at the moment I got a call and the information that we will
get 16 sqm and because of Red Hat pays a little bit, our booth will be
raised up to max. 20 sqm.
<GeroldKa> I will have a meting with the Linuxtag projects board on
2008-04-26 (also) to discuss that point. But there are only 450 sqm for
more than 75 free projects and we will get one of the biggest size :-(
<GeroldKa> Because of that issue I decided to cancel the troubleshooting
contest (because he's not ready right now) and we try to keep our focus
on the gadget with "get your USB stick filled here"
<GeroldKa> FUDCon
<GeroldKa> I have still no answer from Jens working on that issue but
heared from Florian that he's working on that issue; late but he seems
working on that
<GeroldKa> and he will give us an smaller overview after me :-)
<GeroldKa> SWAG
<GeroldKa> - we found a place where to ship our goods from elsewhere in
this world

<fabian_a> rivrandir,
<rivrandir> I'm now working at the Fudcon. I had no time to do it
earlier. We still need more talks.
<fabian_a> kanarip, that's too late. Go directly to the hotel bar and
drink some beer
<kanarip> ;-)
<glezos> !
<kital> ?
<rivrandir> I'm looking for some more speaker, see mail at mailinglist.
<rivrandir> EOF
<fabian_a> thanks, rivrandir
<fabian_a> glezos,

<glezos> ie. go-outs, meetings/discussions, dinners, etc, as well as for
needed tasks, etc.
<GeroldKa> ! (directly to glezos)
<glezos> collecting mobile phone numbers will probably help in this aspect
<glezos> eof.
<fabian_a> GeroldKa first, then kital

<kital> eof
<rivrandir> kital: OK, noted
<GeroldKa> !
<fabian_a> anything else about LinuxTag, FUDCon at LinuxTag, or the FAD
before LinuxTag?
<fabian_a> GeroldKa,
<GeroldKa> rivrandir, be aware that these things MUST be filled asap in
the vcc of Linuxtag
<GeroldKa> or we get the same "shit" as last year
<rivrandir> GeroldKa: I know
<GeroldKa> NO Fedora related speaker in the official paperwork
<GeroldKa> eof
<rivrandir> !
<fabian_a> rivrandir,
<rivrandir> I'm looking especially for a speaker about FreeIPA or cobbler.

<kanarip> and i'll order StefanHartsuiker to pay some attention to it as
well
<kanarip> ;-)

<GeroldKa> oh one important point for Linuxtag
<kanarip> still the same kanarip, yeah
<GeroldKa> we will have two female persons at the booth
<fabian_a> I guess that we are done. Any more questions or issues

Funding/Swag for events in April & May
by Max Spevack
Trying to close up the loose ends for our April/May events.
North America
(1) LinuxFest Northwest -- swag, funding is all taken care of
(2) Release parties
* Utah Fedora/Ubuntu release party
* Los Angeles release party
* Central Ohio release party
What sort of funding and/or swag do you guys need for the release
parties?
(3) Atlanta Installfest -- Dave, remind me what you need for this?
----
South America
(1) FISL -- everything taken care of
The remaining South America events will have to use what's left over
from FISL to begin with, and once we get the final costs of FISL, we'll
see what kind of budget we have left to devote to South America.
----
EMEA
(1) Fedora day in Egypt -- I sent a bunch of swag to Diaa
(2) liberaMENTE -- Francesco, do you need anything from us?
(3) LinuxTag -- has its own planning process, all is well.
(4) Several events without owners, so I am ignorning them for now.
----
APAC
Harish, Rahul, etc -- is there anything you want to try to do on that
side of the world between now and the end of the quarter?

samuele's working on "9 release" version of this poster, but for our next event (Saturday) we need a poster for last official fedora "stable release" (but we'll have also a live usb pen creator for 9 beta...)

yep, the same of previous point ;-)

+1

sounds like "self-service" usb creator... (I want it near my office coffee machine....)

Maybe we can make space for different "usb" cables, each one with a different spin (gnome, kde, devel, etc...)
Right now this could be a bit expensive because you need a pc for each spin (Matteo's script doesn't support multi port yet), but it's not impossible ;-)
Thanks for feedback.

Please Advice - Fedora 9 Release Party at Los Angeles
by Grady Laksmono
Hi Ambassadors,
This is the first time I'm organizing an event for Fedora Project,
here I would start off with Fedora 9 Release Party on my campus. I'd
like to get some advices, comments, feedbacks, suggestions, etc from
those who've been more experienced in organizing Fedora events.
Here's my plan for the Fedora 9 Release Party at California State
University, Los Angeles:
1. Time, Date, and Place
Time: 12:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Date: Friday, May 9, 2008
Location: California State University, Los Angeles
Building: College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology
Room: E&T A220
2. Marketing Materials
- Fedora 9 Banners: Print these on this Friday at Kinko's like this
and post it around campus next week. I'm going to look for some design
from the Media Arts team.
- Fliers: To be given out and put on all around campus, the
fliers should have the design design of the Fedora 9 coming up design
release, and that there's a website where they could vote
(http://acm.calstatela.edu/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2487) on, time, date,
place where the event will be held. That way I could anticipate on how
many people would come to the event. These will be printed at the same
time when I print the banner. Voting is not required to come to the
event, some people have a time, some don't, but I encouraged them to
do so, so that I can anticipate numbers.
- Me and some of my team on campus would give some class announcements
about the event.
3. At the Event
- Someone gives a talk during the event about Fedora 9. I'm thinking
about Thomas [1], since he's probably also the only one who's around
in my area? Or someone from Red Hat?
- Free pizzas and sodas at the event for all of the attendance. (am I
going to get reimbursement for this?)
- USB Creation Stations
- Free Fedora 9 Live CDs
- Free Fedora 9 DVDs
- Questions and Answers sessions
4. Timeline
12:00 - 12:30 Opening Remarks
12:30 - 1:30 Lunch
1:30 - 2:30 Guest Speaker(s) (will be decided)
2:30 - 3:30 Questions and Answers
3:30 Dismissed
Please give me inputs, feedbacks, comments, etc.

[fedora-India] May we have a meeting?
by susmit shannigrahi
Hi,
Its long time since we, Indian ambassadors had a meeting.
Don't you think We are communicating very little?
What about fixing time/date and setting up agendas for a meeting?
What do you say?
Thanks.
