Ankur Sinha's claim to fame
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi
http://lwn.net/Articles/360433/
"The thread which brought on the monitors seemed to start innocently
enough - though many observers could have predicted what was going to
happen. Ankur Sinha posted a help request noting that wodim was failing
to burn DVDs correctly. Your editor can hear the forehead-slapping from
here: any such post is well known, by now, to be an open invitation for
Jörg Schilling to show up and complain about the existence of wodim (and
its parent package cdrkit) when distributions should, of course, be
shipping his cdrtools package. Show up he did, with predictable results"

[Fwd] how to become a docs contributor (video)
by susmit shannigrahi
FYI

From: Karsten Wade <kwade(a)redhat.com>
"how to become a docs contributor"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJXyeIS-eIU
Yesterday I was helping Mel[0] with the POSSE[1] class in
Singapore[2]. Basically, I covered what open source content in Fedora
does (technical docs, process docs, community self-knowledge docs),
the common tools and styles we try to propagate, and then walked the
class through how to contribute to the release notes. The exercise
was focused on editing to the wiki. I explained the rest of the
process in the abstract with lots of links.[3]
The class[4] are all instructors in polytechnical or business schools in
APAC - Singapore, Shangai, and so forth. Ideally, they take back the
"how to be an active contributor in an open source community" training
to their classes. Even better, if they do classes where part of the
student work is being active in FLOSS communities.
You may find the IRC log[3] interesting, but Mel did a good job
capturing the basics in that screencast. It is useful for showing to
anyone who drops by #fedora-docs. We'll try to get an OGG version to
grab from somewhere so we can have it in the /topic on
#fedora-docs. :)
Cheers - Karsten

Re: [Ambassadors] FOSS GN'09 Report
by susmit shannigrahi
Hi Jaideep,
Thanks for the nice report.
However, there are a few observations:
> I am sending you the Link of FOSS GN'09 report that we had from 28th -
> 31st October , 2009 @ Engineering College Bikaner , RAJASTHAN, INDIA
> http://www.scribd.com/doc/22469857/FOSS-GN09-Report
1. You can upload it anywhere you want, but preferably use your
fedorapeople space that is provided.[1] That saves the authentication
hassles.
2. This is a great report and you should "influence" those who made it
to join fedora-doc and fedora-design.
3. And lastly, (this is not to offend/criticise you, neither it is to
undermine your efforts) using Office 2007 isn't the right way to
produce a FOSS report. Try OpenOffice, Latex, Publican or anything
FOSS. :)
Good work. Keep it up.

Re: [fedora-india] Planning to present in or attend FOSS.IN 2009?
by Ankur Sinha
hi,
Well, out of all the weird things that people can say, "Microsoft makes
me attend FOSS.IN" should really be on top ;)
Internship cell at college announced today that Micro will be holding
interviews (for summer internships) for us on the 29-30th of this month.
So "hello FOSS.IN" :D
Looking forward to meeting all FOSS people there. If there's anything I
can help in, please do let me know.
regards,
Ankur

F13 Naming: Leonidas -> Constantine -> <New Name>?
by susmit shannigrahi
FYI and suggestions.

Subject: F13 Naming: Leonidas -> Constantine -> <New Name>?
To: fedora-advisory-board(a)redhat.com, fedora-announce-list(a)redhat.com,
fedora-devel-announce(a)redhat.com
With Fedora 12 just a few days from release it is time to begin the
naming process for the next Fedora release.
Contributors can make suggestions for the name for Fedora 13 by visiting
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Name_suggestions_for_Fedora_13
and following the instructions.
Remember there needs to be an "is-a" link between the name Constantine
and the name you suggest and this link must be different than all
previous links used to connect Fedora release names.
Full details of the release naming schedule are available on the above
link but please note than the period for gathering suggestions begins
now and runs through November 16.
So there isn't a lot of time, think up some good names, and get them
added to the wiki.
Have fun,
John
