hey all, We had shortly discussed an app that notifies the user of a new comic strip at the recent FAD. I got down to it last week and have come up with a release. I call it "loki"[1]. It's really raw right now. It uses libcurl and libconfig to read from a conf file and check for the availability of a new comic strip. It does this by comparing the stored previous issue time stamp with the "Last-modified" tag of the HTTP header returned by the site's rss feed. I haven't incorporated the notification area pop up and auto checking yet. Its on my TODO list for the next release. The app is "Autotoolized". Why I had chosen "Loki" : He was a Norse God who is well known as a prankster. He loved to make jokes etc. The app tells you about comics such as xkcd which are also centred around humour. I'd love to hear suggestions from you folks.

hello, I managed the time to get rid of some quirks and add some more features to loki (yes, it stays loki until I think up another name). Here's the announcement on my blog[1]. It features a screen shot too. This[2] is the link to the F13 repo that I've put up on my fedorapeople space. Once installed, to run, "loki &" from your terminal. I had expected it to be functional in the way an Echofon or, ChromedBird works - keep polling for updates and, provide the viewer to view the updates

The usage point I was mentioning is that loki/tenali still requires me to click on a notification bubble and use a browser to view the link. What if it was a self-contained application with a browser within itself ? Something like what liferea does and what pino does when you click on the bubble in notification.
