Hi all
I came across this project page a few days back and opened the
discussion on #fedora-ambassadors list. I was amazed by the fact that
there are no owners of the initiative yet.

that this is a good initiative since this focuses on the campuses (
universities and colleges) where majority of the Linux users are and
also where a lot of FOSS development take place. This is good
opportunity to build a strong community of students and potential
contributors. So I wanted to open this topic for discussion. I want
India or maybe APAC to take the lead in this project. We have a lot of
Fedora Ambassadors and users in India and I believe that this will be
step forward. What do you think about this initiative. This topic will
be discussed in the next meeting of famsco. Please let your opinions
and ideas flow in.

I'd suggest that we have three simple criteria for students to become
a Campus Ambassador. They should:
1. Use Fedora.
2. Help their friends use Fedora.
3. Start to contribute to Fedora
(packaging/documentation/translation/marketing/code/testing/support or
any other)

And, that's a very good summary of what it takes. Thanks Shakthi. For
example, I am pretty much delighted to see a lot of young folks coming
up from Durgapur, but, if you look closely enough, Durgapur isn't the
only thing in West Bengal and, West Bengal isn't the only state in
India. There are times when I get the feeling that we should learn to
walk first and, then start running. Or, in other words, let's start
getting more folks who follow the 3 steps with intense passion across
various states and educational institutes and, I am sure that the good
ones will be self selected into leadership roles like Campus
Ambassadors.

Yes. Let us keep things simple.
In this regard, I would like to see a poll or hear on the convenient
time for #fedora-india IRC meeting times. We could decide on a fixed
time, or, we can keep it in rotation, every week.
We may or may not have an agenda, but, I would like to hear on
*topics* that newbies/end-users would like to work on, or *tasks* that
they are stuck with, or that needs immediate *help* or *attention*,
and I would be happy to discuss the same. I hope that others would
join in as well.
I was thinking Saturday/Sunday afternoon (say 1400-1500 IST), so one
could still enjoy their weekend evenings.

Let's not try to over-engineer this. Figuring out a commonly accepted
time isn't really rocket science.
