Change
GITID:= $(shell $(GIT) log --max-count=1 --pretty=format:%H)
to
GITID:= $(shell $(GIT) log --max-count=1 --pretty=format:%H $(HEAD))
making the argument to 'git log' explicit and allowing it to be
overridden by, e.g., self-tests.
