gnome-power-manager problem with e525

Hi all!
I have got new laptop (emachines E525) and installed fedora11 on it
successfully.i am enjoying it except the gnome-power-manager issue and
function Keys problems.when the laptop switches to battery mode Gnome
shows that Ac power is lost but it doesn't reduce brightness as defined
in gnome-power-manager prefrences.It reduces the battery timimg rapidly.
the 2nd problem is that when i want to increase or decrease brightness
or volume by using Fn key combinaton ,it doesn't act accordingly.
any body have a solution or suggestion?

More progress, but still cannot activate wireless card connection.

Michael Frank, thanks for telling me about the 'system -> administration ->
add/remove' applet. I loaded my Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
device driver with that applet.
'lsmod | grep iwl' now shows
iwl3945 125016 0
mac80211 164704 1 iwl3945
lib80211 5064 1 iwl3945
cfg80211 30560 2 iwl3945,mac80211
Steven, I must have removed my wlan0 entry from NetworkManager by mistake.
Only wlan1 shows in that applet at the moment. Before I used NetworkManger
so many times. trying by experimentation, to activate my wireless card,
wlan0 showed up in NetworkManger. Is there any way for me to get wlan0
back?
now 'less /etc/sysconfig/networking/devices' only shows:

In the NetworkManager, under the 'Devices' tab, when I click on the 'Edit'
icon, the dialog page/General tab that appears, the checkbox item for wlan1
"Controlled by NetworkManager" was definitely deselected.
But then, When I try to actviate wlan1 in NetWorkManager, I always get an
error message box, saying wlan1 cannot be activated. The dialog message box
never says why wlan1 cannot be selected.
I want to thank everyone for helping me so much with my problems, trying to
activate my wireless card. I know you put a lot of valuable time in to
preparing your answers to my problems.
But I have to admit, I am getting sort of desperate! What should I do
next? I definitely want to access my city's WiFi network. I am going to
study the fedora-network-manager list next, even if I do not hear from you
guys.

Downloaded Intel driver with 'System -> Administration -> Add/Remove Software', still cannot activate wireless card

Steven F. LeBrun, I appreciate your suggestions. I hope what I tell Brian
below, is in keeping with what you suggest. Your quote:

with it's quirky humor, is great! I have a mathematics degree from the
University of California. I am familiar with binary,octal,decimal and
hexadecimal number bases.
Brian, you are correct, I should have subscribed to the Fedora
NetworkManager list, instead of the laptop list. My mistake! I will
probably subscribe to that list tomorrow and document my wireless problem.
I went to 'System -> Administration -> Add/Remove Software' and hopefully
downloaded
'Firmware for Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG'
I have never used the 'Add/Remove Software' administrative tool before, so I
did not what to expect. I am not sure I downloaded the driver to my
computer.
This was my last message on the '/var/log/messages' you told me to check.
'Jul 26 12:49:07 localhost yum: Installed:
iwl3945-firmware-15.32.2.9-1.fc11.noarch'
Immediately after reading that message, I went to 'System -> Administration
-> Network', but when under the 'Devices' tab, when I clicked on the 'wlan1'
entry, the 'Activate' , on the menu bar above, was grayed out. I could find
no way to activate 'wlan1', which had my Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless
3945ABG card.
Any further suggestions or comments? I definitely appreciate the help that
both of you have given me so far.

Your reply to my question, in the text below, was very quick. I am glad
that you said my wireless card was okay with Fedora 11. I just think I need
a good .pdf tutorial on how to use the Network-Manager. Can you recommend a
good document that I might read?
I looked at the Network-Manager list, but it is huge! I did not know which
entry to click on.

How Do I activate wireless connection with Fedora 11 Network-Manager?

Using the Fedora 11 Network-Manager, I would like help in activating my
Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 3945ABG |Golan| Network Connection
card or device driver that came with my DELL Inspiron 1505 laptop computer
that I purchased over 3 years ago.
I want to be able to access my city WiFi network. I had very little problem
connecting with my city WiFi using the Fedora 10 Network-Manager. I, now
with Fedora 11, cannot seem to activate my wireless card listed above. I
have to admit I do not really understand the Network-Manager that well.
Can somebody help me?

Yes.... my camera was recognized on cheese when I was using a
live disk of Fedora 11 to test things out. Cheese displays the
no camera found message.

I installed Fedora 11 on my sony vaio computer. My webcam is
not recognized by any software. I know it is supported because
the webcam worked on a live distro of Fedora 11.... any
thoughts ??? by the way it is a built in webcam
