the
program stack executable.
Detailed Description
The firefox(/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b3pre/firefox)
application attempted to make its
stack executable. This is a potential security
problem. This should never ever
be necessary. Stack memory is not executable on most
OSes these days and this
will not change. Executable stack memory is one of the
biggest security
problems. An execstack error might in fact be most
likely raised by malicious
code. Applications are sometimes coded incorrectly and
request this permission.
The SELinux Memory Protection Tests
(http://people.redhat.com/drepper/selinux-mem.html)
web page explains how to
remove this requirement. If
firefox(/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b3pre/firefox) does not
work and you need it to work, you can configure
SELinux temporarily to allow
this access until the application is fixed. Please
file a bug report
(http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/enter_bug.cgi)
against this package.
Allowing Access
Sometimes a library is accidentally marked with the
execstack flag, if you find
a library with this flag you can clear it with the
execstack -c LIBRARY_PATH.
Then retry your application. If the app continues to
not work, you can turn the
flag back on with execstack -s LIBRARY_PATH.
Otherwise, if you trust
firefox(/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b3pre/firefox) to run
correctly, you can change the
context of the executable to
unconfined_execmem_exec_t. "chcon -t
unconfined_execmem_exec_t
firefox(/usr/lib/firefox-3.0b3pre/firefox)" You must
also change the default file context files on the
system in order to preserve
them even on a full relabel. "semanage fcontext -a -t

Detailed Description
SELinux denied access requested by
dbus-daemon(/bin/dbus-daemon). It is not
expected that this access is required by
dbus-daemon(/bin/dbus-daemon) and this
access may signal an intrusion attempt. It is also
possible that the specific
version or configuration of the application is causing
it to require additional
access.
Allowing Access
Sometimes labeling problems can cause SELinux denials.
You could try to restore
the default system file context for <Unknown>,
restorecon -v <Unknown> If this
does not work, there is currently no automatic way to
allow this access.
Instead, you can generate a local policy module to
allow this access - see FAQ
(http://fedora.redhat.com/docs/selinux-faq-fc5/#id2961385)
Or you can disable
SELinux protection altogether. Disabling SELinux
protection is not recommended.

I just got this one logging in. Looks like /var/log/btmp is getting mislabeled

"write" to (var_log_t).
Detailed Description
SELinux is preventing gdm-simple-slav(/usr/libexec/gdm-simple-slave) (xdm_t)
"write" to <Unknown> (var_log_t). The SELinux type var_log_t, is a generic type
for all files in the directory and very few processes (SELinux Domains) are
allowed to write to this SELinux type. This type of denial usual indicates a
mislabeled file. By default a file created in a directory has the gets the
context of the parent directory, but SELinux policy has rules about the creation
of directories, that say if a process running in one SELinux Domain (D1) creates
a file in a directory with a particular SELinux File Context (F1) the file gets
a different File Context (F2). The policy usually allows the SELinux Domain (D1)
the ability to write, unlink, and append on (F2). But if for some reason a file
(<Unknown>) was created with the wrong context, this domain will be denied. The
usual solution to this problem is to reset the file context on the target file,
restorecon -v <Unknown>. If the file context does not change from var_log_t,
then this is probably a bug in policy. Please file a bug report
(http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/enter_bug.cgi) against the selinux-policy
package. If it does change, you can try your application again to see if it
works. The file context could have been mislabeled by editing the file or moving
the file from a different directory, if the file keeps getting mislabeled, check
the init scripts to see if they are doing something to mislabel the file.

question re: mount_t context and network I/O

Hello,
I have a question regarding the mount_t context on RHEL5 (but for my
purposes the recent Fedora SELinux policies are equally relevant).
I am having a problem where occasionally the 'umount' binary hangs because
the filesystem being unmounted (OpenAFS) tries to do network I/O as part
of the kernel code path triggered by the umount() system call.
The actual audit messages in the log look like this:
audit(1199237877.841:1837): avc: denied { write } for pid=29174 comm="umount" lport=7001 scontext=system_u:system_r:mount_t:s0 tcontext=system_u:system_r:initrc_t:s0 tclass=udp_socket
What's happening here, as far as I can tell, is that the openafs
filesystem (kernel code) tries to do some network I/O from inside the
umount() system call. Because this happens in the context of the umount
process itself, SELinux applies the same restrictions that it would have
if umount had deliberately used sockets itself.
(The UDP socket in question, bound to port 7001, would have been created
at the time that the openafs filesystem was initialized)
My question is:
What does the current SELinux policy (e.g. targeted policy) on Fedora do
for the case of NFS and cifs, for the mount_t context? Can mount/umount
perform any network I/O, or is this restricted?

Is SELinux support as a kernel module possible ??

Hi guys,
I have a need to install SELinux on a sytem running with a kernel without
SELinux built into it. However, I cannot reinstall a custom kernel with the
SELinux built into it.
So, I am looking at building a kernel module for SELinux and load it. I
tried compiling the kernel with config option CONFIG_SECURITY_SELINUX=m and
i got this error:
.config:984:warning: symbol value 'm' invalid for SECURITY_SELINUX
Is it possible to load SELinux as a kernel module ? Has anyone tried this ?
Any help is appreciated
