Basic startup of cobbler on Ubuntu 14.04
by Paul Michali (pcm)
Hi!
I installed cobbler and cobbler-web 2.4.1 via apt-get install on Ubuntu 14.04 server setup I have. With that, I tried “cobbler status” but I get:
cobblerd does not appear to be running/accessible: error(110, 'Connection timed out’)
If I look at the error log, I see this constantly repeating:
Sat Aug 30 11:23:59 2014 - ERROR | [Errno 99] Cannot assign requested address
Sat Aug 30 11:24:01 2014 - INFO | 11 breeds and 46 OS versions read from the signature file
Sat Aug 30 11:24:02 2014 - DEBUG | API handle initialized:
In /etc/cobbler/settings, I tried changing client_use_localhost=1, per a suggestion, but that made no difference.
The cobblerd process is running.
Any suggestions?

Clarification request.
by Michael Tiernan
There's two specific snippets provided with the distribution and I
wanted to make sure I had a clear understanding of their purpose and use.
"kickstart_start" & "kickstart_done"
Their 'ideal' (*cough*) locations are at the very start and very end of
a kickstart process.
Their purpose of the "_start" snippet is to pull the triggers on profile
"pre_install" and system "pre_install" actions and the "_done" snippet
does the corresponding "post_install" for profiles and then systems as
well as other tasks such as handling the pxe once triggering and the
"save kickstart" operation.
Did I miss anything about these?
(I plan to put comments in them for my future reference.)

Documentation
by Jörgen Maas
Hey all,
In the past the Cobbler manual has been split off from the cobbler source
tree and moved into the website repo. Since then we have never received any
patches to the documentation, i'd like to see more user involvement with
regards to the documentation.
To make contributing more easy i have started importing the documentation
back into the main cobbler repository. This process involves converting the
docs (from markdown) into the RST format which is unfortunately still
ongoing...
Also, the docs are now built using Sphinx and PDF versions will be included
in a new cobbler-docs package. For more online reading convenience i've
also setup a readthedocs.org account:
http://cobbler.readthedocs.org/en/latest/
This new documentation effort is targeted at the master branch which will
become Cobbler 3.0.0.
I'd like to invite anyone to help converting/improving our documentation!
Thanks!

yaml.parser.ParserError after upgrade to 2.4.7
by Greg Chavez
Hello List.
So I upgraded the cobbler and cobbler-web yum packages from 2.4.4 to 2.4.7,
in preparation for upgrading to 2.6 (this is a RedHat 5.6 system). Cobbler
works fine from the command line, but I get an error when I attempt to
login to the Web console. In /var/log/cobbler, I get this every time I
access:

Any ideas? I'm used to having to tweak a one or two things after an
upgrade, but this one has me stumped.
Thanks.

/dev/root does not exist
by Cameron Regan
Hello All,
I am starting using Cobbler. I have Memtest and DBAN working correctly
on my system but for the life of me cannot get Fedora to boot into an
install wizard.
I have tried Importing a Fedora 20 DVD and mirroring Both Fedora 18 and
20 from mirrors.kernel.org
All end with
Warning: Could not Boot
Warning: /dev/root does not exist
My kopts are as follows:
repo=http://192.168.XX.XX/cblr/links/Fedora-20-x86_64/
stage2=http://192.168.XX.XX/cblr/links/Fedora-20-x86_64/LiveOS/squashfs.img
I am out of idea's on how to fix this.

Problem Following Upgrade To 2.6
by Phil Edwards
Just stumbled across a problem that had me resorting to the power of
Google for a fix today...
Cobbler server OS is CentOS 6.5 x86_64
Cobbler itself is installed from the packages in the EPEL repository and
was upgraded from 2.4 to 2.6 overnight.
# rpm -qa|grep -i cobbler
cobbler-web-2.6.3-1.el6.noarch
cobbler-2.6.3-1.el6.noarch
On restarting httpd and cobblerd, I was getting an exception when
accessingthe web interface:
Exception Type: ImportError
Exception Value: cannot import name patterns
Exception Location: /usr/share/cobbler/web/cobbler_web/urls.py in
<module>, line 1
Python Executable: /usr/bin/python
Python Version: 2.6.6
It turns out that this is caused by the fact that the Django package
version in EPEL is still at 1.3.7. The fix is to change the line at the
top of /usr/share/cobbler/web/cobbler_web/urls.py from:
from django.conf.urls import patterns
to:
from django.conf.urls.defaults import *
And, of course, wait for the EPEL maintainers to get Django 1.4
packaged! The only question I have is whether there s nay other
functionality in v2.6 that relies upon something specific to Django 1.4?
