dhcp issue? - 1.6.5
by Tom Brown
I am seeing the following.....
in my dhcp template i have
subnet 10.70.201.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
next-server 10.70.201.217;
filename "pxelinux.0";
default-lease-time 21600;
max-lease-time 43200;
}
so hosts in 10.70.201.x should have those network details however boxes
in that network have a dhcp configuration generated that look like the
below.
host generic3 {
hardware ethernet 00:1f:29:e3:be:00;
fixed-address 10.70.201.202;
filename "/pxelinux.0";
next-server 10.70.205.7;
}
the 'next-server' is wrong - any clue?
thanks

[SEMI-ANNOUNCE] 1.6.6 RPMs, update completely optional
by Michael DeHaan
In interest of full disclosure, I had to fix a few things for Red Hat
Satellite Server / Spacewalk that warranted some new releases of Cobbler
and Koan.
The changes in this release aren't very profound for people who are just
using Cobbler, but I didn't want some folks to wonder why this release
wasn't getting wider visibility , so here it is:
- - 1.6.6
- (BUGF) fix typo in /usr/bin/cobbler-register
- (NOTE: koan changelog in subdirectory is no longer maintained)
- (BUGF) fix error message when wrong virt ram value is applied
- (FEAT) koan now partially works in source code form on EL 2
- (BUGF) Satellite also has a python module named "server" so we have to remove ours for Python imports. This code was not used anyway.
- (BUGF) Fedora 11 imports now work
One of these was a workaround for what we think is a mod_python import bug because of a reused module name. Another is code-only
support for an OS that is not widely deployed.
Of this changelog, here are the only ones that will affect end users:
koan: fix typo in /usr/bin/cobbler-register
cobbler: fix error message when wrong virt ram value is applied
cobbler: Fedora 11 --os-version is now legal for imports
If either of those two items are interesting for you, you can pick up RPMs from
http://mdehaan.fedorapeople.org/files/cobbler/testing/
However we are probably *not* going to release this to Fedora/EPEL as it's so small, probably I'm going to wait until we have more items
to do a 1.6.7 (if we accumulate enough new fixes to warrant this), or just wait until 2.0 ... it depends on what comes up.
Though if you've been wanting to use cobbler-register and haven't built a new RPM, that may get you started... although
cobbler-register works a lot better in 2.0 so you may just want to wait. It also fixes that pesky message when you enter
in the wrong virtual RAM.
Again, I consider both of these fixes not worth upgrading, but these packages do solve some Satellite problems/features that
are rather important to it.
Fedora 11 *is* important, but then again, I didn't want to push a new release so close to the previous one. Also, I think the
future focus should be on 2.0 rather than indefinitely continuing 1.6.X
Apologies if that is somewhat confusing :)

Re: kickstart metadata not set when importing Fedroa 11 i386 and x86_64???
by Scot Floess
D'oh
I had the epel-testing yum repo disabled - and I haven't gotten update in some time!
So, I re-enabled and yum update'd - now at 1.6.5... And see the same issue... Should I consider 1.6.6?
To be quite honest - this is really not a big deal for me... I can definitely wait till 2.0 is out...

Yes, there are new constants.
Please upgrade your version of Cobbler to a recent version. 1.6.2 came
out 3/30, it's now 6/11 and other updates have been in yum for some time.

Make It So Number One

Cluster unresponsive when deploying virtual machine with cobbler/koan
by LizardKings
When we create a new virtual machine with cobbler / koan the xen vm
config file is created with the following line:
disk = [ "file:/var/lib/xen/images/xennode1-disk0,xvda,w" ]
Is it possible to change this before the installation begins?
to:
disk = [ "tap:aio:/var/lib/xen/images/xennode1-disk0,xvda,w" ]
An installation with the "file" option make our running and existing xen
virtual machines in the whole rhel5.3 cluster unresponsive ( 8 x dom0 ).
As a workaround we use now virt-install who uses tap:aio.

We are much more interested in fixing the problem than workarounds, so
if you can, please re-do the import with a new name and paste the output
from it.
Also indicate what you are using for the import source, as well as the
full commandline used on the import.

kickstart metadata not set when importing Fedroa 11 i386 and x86_64???
by Scot Floess
I just downloaded both the Fedora 11 i386 and x86_64 ISOs and attempted to import them to Cobbler:
cobbler import --arch=i386 --name=Fedora-11-i386 --mirror=/mnt/iso/fedora-i386
cobbler import --arch=x86_64 --name=Fedora-11-x86_64 --mirror=/mnt/iso/fedora-x86_64
It appeared the import worked... But I noticed (via the Web UI) that the Kickstart Metadata section was blank...
Additionally, I noticed in /var/www/cobbler/ks_mirror there was no symbolic link for either Fedora 11 i386 nor x86_64. I manually added it as well as to he Kickstart Metadata section in the Web UI.
Has anyone else experienced this...or is there something else I should do on import? This wasn't the F11 preview ISO...I grabbed the ISO when F11 was in its final release (2 days ago)...
Thanks!

cobbler buildiso
by C R
I'm new to cobbler but I have completed the configuration and I have what I
need for distributions, profiles and kickstarts...etc... ( I will get to the
repos and imaging later)..
however I do not have control of DHCP and so I am trying to create a single
iso that can be used for all of my server configurations... I know that
cobbler and my install media (and kickstarts) are correct but when running
'cobbler buildiso' the Xen distro's are skipped and any system that
references a Xen distro are also skipped.... in the environment I am working
in I have a number of servers using standard kernel builds which currently I
can install using the iso from 'buildiso' but I also have a number of dom0
servers... (domU's can be handled via koan)
if it is not possible to use the 'buildiso' for Xen systems / distros (dom0)
then I guess I need to either convince the DHCP admin to make the PXE
changes or go back to calling the kickstart files from an install media DVD
(this option removes some of the appeal of deploying cobbler)...
any help is appreciated
cheers,

koan replace-self - timeout issue?
by Tom Brown
Hi
during a recent test of a rebuild using koan with static network config
there seemed to be an issue where the stg2.img and ks could not be
grabbed due to some timeout issue as just saying 'OK' to retry solved it.
On the grub command line is there anyway to set a 'timeout' value for
requests as it seems there is perhaps an issue with the amount of time
it takes the NIC to get a link?
thanks
