managing dual boot system with cobbler
by Eric Doutreleau
hi
We re using cobbler to install linux machine here and it works well
we made some tests to install windows through image file with cobbler.
And i was wondering how cobbler user manage double boot system?
is there an elegant way to manage that kind of beast
- installation through image for windows part and through kickstart for
the linux part.
Has anybody have experiment to share?
Thanks in davance for any answer

tftp unable to get distro files
by Rodrigo Garcia
Hi,
I'm hitting this problem when trying to net install on p Series hardware
using cobbler.
When the system boots to network, bootp is able to start things up
nicely by getting the yaboot-1.3.14 (provided by cobbler installation)
then loading the yaboot config menu (the one cobbler place on the
/tftpboot/etc/<mac-addr-named-file>). From that point on, when the boot
entry is selected, tftp fails miserably to get the kernel file located
at /tftp/images/<distro>/vmlinuz. I have attached the console output.
Has anyone experienced this problem?
I'm running cobbler 1.6.6 on RHEL5.4. All my tftp configs are based on
the templates cobbler provided. In fact, I'm able to get the file by
directly tftp'ing them from a client machine.
The workaround I got was to replace the original yaboot-1.3.14 with a
yaboot that SLES11 DVD provides. That yaboot expects a config file named
yaboot.conf-<mac-addr> to be at the same location as the binary. So I
copied the cobbler generated config to /tftpboot/yaboot.conf-<mac-addr>
and magically tftp was able to get the installation going.
Btw, is there a way of configuring (or hack) cobbler to place the yaboot
configs files on a different location and possibly with another naming
convention?
Thanks,
-Rodrigo

How to log out of WbeUI
by Leonid Flaks
What is the 'proper' way to log out of web GUI?
I think it would be nice to have something like 'logout' button.
I recently had to visit cobbler WebUI from the system that I used a few
weeks ago and to my surprise, no authentication was needed. This
happened on 1.6, but I don't see it on development version neither.

webui, profile, yum repos selection box, architecture filter
by Bryan Schneiders
cobbler-1.6.6-1.fc10.i386
The yum repository selection box on the profile page in the web interface appears to automatically filter out repositories that don't match the architecture of the current profile. This includes hiding i386 repositories from an x86_64 profile. I'm finding myself in a situation where I cannot select my local i386 updates repositories containing necessary updates for i386 packages I have installed on x86_64 hosts.
I will try the command line next and hope it doesn't have the same restrictions.
Is this behaviour also present in the upcoming release of Cobbler? Is there was way to change it in the meantime for the current stable release?
Thanks.

Disabling PXE support in cobbler
by Justin Sherrill
Is there was a way to disable cobbler from writing to /tfpboot?
Currently cobbler just blows away whatever pxe configuration is there.
I didn't see any config options to disable this, nor did my scan over
the pxe section of the code seem to show much.
Thanks,
-Justin

Sending email from cobbler
by Paul Company
I set "build_reporting_enabled: 1" and filled in the appropriate
"build_reporting_*" fields
but I don't get an email after a system has finished installing.
I tested it manually from my cobbler server:
# telnet <build_reportin_smtp_server> 25
HELO <cobbler server fqdn>
MAIL FROM <build_reporting_sender>
RCPT TO <build_reporting_email>
DATA
Subject: <build_reporting_subject>
test
.
This works just fine.
What triggers the email to be sent?
Am I missing an entry in the kickstart file?
(Assuming it's triggered from the kickstart file).
What program or method does cobbler use to send email?
Does it just open a socket to port 25 and talk SMTP?
Or does it use telnet or sendmail?
Where does cobbler log such information.
I grepped /var/log/cobbler/*.log, /var/log/maillog and
/var/log/messages for any information, but didn't see anything email
related.
Should I see something in /var/lib/cobbler/triggers/install/post or does cobbler
just use /etc/cobbler/reporting/build_report_email.template internally?
Thanks,
Paul
