binutils 2.30 has been out for about a week. Will we get it in Rawhide soon? It has some modest enhancements related to the RISC-V architecture.
No, not before Fedora 28 branches.
Is there a particular issue with 2.30, eg. not stable enough for a stable release of Fedora?
There isn't any specific issue.
Toolchain updates always carry some risk, and we already have enough moving parts due to GCC 8 and other low-level changes that landed in rawhide recently.
Hmm, IMO, GCC + binutils updates are an ideal candidate to be pushed simultaneously and an ideal opportunity for a mass rebuild.
