Intel's Clear Linux optimizations

Hi, Phoronix recently release article[1] about Intel's Clear Linux with some cool graphs showing nice performance gain compared to Xubuntu. I didn't have time to dig in and look how it's performing against Fedora, but I'd assume Fedora can be compared to Xubuntu in terms of compiler settings. I think i'll be interesting to look into it and find out if Fedora can't tweak compiler settings (eg use LTO for critical things like Mesa, Kernel, ...). I think it could be interesting fo Fedora users to have this enabled if there are not any disadvantages other than compile time, compile memory usage and so on. What do you think? Packaging Guidelines for Applications using Git Submodules

I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle the situation where a project decides to use submodules in Git. The archive generated doesn't incorporate the submodule files. I've done some searching on this, and haven't really come up with much. I've reviewed: Packaging:Github <https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:SourceURL?rd=Packaging/SourceURL#G…> ; but that really doesn't address the submodule issue. I looked through some packages that are currently in the Fedora repository and found where a few folks have rebuilt the tarball and referenced that version as the Source in the spec file; then they put in a comment stating: The source of this package was pulled from upstreams' vcs. Use the following commands to generate the tarball: ... - git clone ... - git submodule init - git submodule update ... This approach is the best that I've found. Any other suggestions? Thanks much!

Applications with AppData and not visible in the software center

We've been looking at the AppStream extractor issues in Fedora, and we've come across a few broken applications. Broken apps are not visible in the application installer. Remove old GPG keys?

some man pages have bugs, can't be grep'd

I've been seeing this since clean installing Fedora 30. I don't recall ever seeing it before, including on a Fedora 29 -> Fedora 30 upgraded system (is now the clean installed system). Unretire ulogd (or another NFLOG logger?)

I'd like to use NFLOG to log firewall drops (so that the kernel message log isn't spammed by them), but it doesn't appear there's anything currently in Fedora that can read that other than "tcpdump -i nflog". It looks like ulogd was retired a while back because it only had a SysV init script and nobody stepped up to convert it to systemd (which should be really simple, since the old init script is pretty much a textbook template of a SysV init script). Am I missing anything? Is that all it needs? Is there another NFLOG logger daemon? -- Chris Adams <linux(a)cmadams.net>

Conflicting build-ids in nekovm and haxe

Hi list, Re. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1896901 Since haxe-4.1.3-4 and nekovm-2.3.0-4, both nekovm and haxe packages contains "/usr/lib/.build-id/b0/aed4ddf2d45372bcc79d5e95d2834f5045c09c". The nekovm one is a symlink to "/usr/bin/neko". The haxe one to "/usr/bin/haxelib". Both the neko and haxelib binaries are built with libneko, with a nearly identical main.c with the only difference of the present of neko bytecode embedded as a byte array (neko: the byte array is null; haxelib: the byte array is the haxelib neko bytecode). I'm not sure how to resolve it. Please advice. Best regards, Andy

[apt-cacher-ng] Resurrect dead package

Hi, I've resurrected `apt-cacher-ng` on my fork: https://src.fedoraproject.org/fork/fepitre/rpms/apt-cacher-ng/c/06340bafbb2… with successful builds on my testing COPR repository for F32+ and EPEL8: https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/fepitre/fedora/build/1879178/. I plan to (already) use this package for my current work on reproducible builds.
