Your goals in the Fedora Project:
Making Fedora work. Adding packages that I find useful. Fixing problems
so it "just works".
Which packages do you want to see published?
I will have to dig out my list... par2cmdline, various backgrounds and
art packages, a handful of security packages, and whatever else I find
useful that do not exist in the various repositories.
Do you want to do QA? Yes. I am writing a few tools to automate some of
that process. (Automatic cross-repository conflict resolution.)
Anything else special?
I have some design ideas that I will be writing soon. Some ideas to
make the installed a little more useful and a little less braindead.
Historical qualifications
I worked on the distribution builds for early versions of Immunix 7.3,
as well as security patches and other distribution related work. I am
an active contributor to the Fedora lists, among other things.
What other projects have you worked on in the past?
Immunix. I have contributed patches to other projects, including the
kernel. I used to be the admin for perl.org. (I administered 18+
mailing lists there, including perl5-porters.)
What computer languages and other skills do you know?
C, C++, Perl, some Python, shell scripting, some assembly and whatever
else I need to know for any given project.
Why should we trust you? <--- too blunt?
Because I don't know where you live? You need references? I can get a
few... (But then again, they may need references as well...)

Re: Shrinking/splitting up core -- New tag, instead of modifying Core

And I agree.
That's why I was advocating that Fedora "Core" _not_ be touched.
But we create a new "tag" and give people the option to start from there.
Instead of doing #1 in this post:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-June/msg00295.html
I saw we don't touch Fedora "Core."
We just create something anew, but leave "Core" for compatibility.

Ever seen a i386/486 core running at 400MHz?
With 256MB of RAM?
And a 20GB disk?
I think the thing I'm having trouble conveying here is that there are
literally dozens of companies selling systems just like this. Modern
speeds, moderately sized memory and disk, with a low-power,
"system-on-a-chip" that is a i386/486 core.
This isn't about a "lite" distro.
These systems have the "performance/resources" covered.
We're not talking about memory, disk or performance limitations.
We're talking about ISA compatibility.
You don't hear about it because you don't see it.
But there are black box solutions out there (millions).
And it's much nicer if a distro supports them out-of-the-box.
I'm not talking a "lite" distro.
I'm talking about a i686 optimized distro that runs on i386 ISA.
Heck, those i386/486 cores are pretty optimized themselves.

Bad WindowMaker patch in use; correction attached
by Alexey Spiridonov
Hello,
Alex Perez, a GNUstep package maintainer, brought to my attention that the WindowMaker packages distributed on www.fedora.us use an old and _broken_ version of my GTK2 patches. This is probably due to the fact that my corrected patch was missed and not merged into CVS (and still isn't...), and has happened through no fault of Fedora developers.
In the meantime, I've been running with the corrected patch for around 8 months with essentially no problems; I know for a fact the previous one had many annoying focus bugs. To help out Alex (as he was worried about that Fedora was using), I made a backport of the correct patch against 0.80.2; it is attached. I hope you find it useful.
Below is my letter to Alex.
***
Hi Alex,
The attached patch *should* work quite well for fixing 0.80.2's focus problems. I say "should" because
it's a straight backport of the patch that works well for CVS, and I haven't tested it very long. The
"timidity -im" Open dialog doesn't get focused properly yet, but all other Motif transients I've found
do. There will be an update if I am able to find what's wrong in that case. Please let me know if you have trouble.
Best regards,
Alexey

S3 sleep with kernel 422 and ATI Radeon problem
by Philip Balister
On my Dell D600 and the 422 kernel I can suspend and resume my laptop.
(After unloading some USB stuff). However when I resume the video
display shows only coloured vertical lines and the backlight slowly
increases in brightness. I have seen references to some patches to help
Radeon video cards return from sleep. DO I need to find these and apply
them somewhere to make S3 work?
I am guessing I resumed because C-A-D will reboot the laptop.
Video card is:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon R250 Lf
[Radeon Mobility 9000 M9] (rev 02)
Thanks,
Philip

Leonard den Ottolander wrote:

Not the original Cyrix 6x86.
They all had a fixed 2.0x multiplier.
55MHz * 2 = 110MHz (P133+)
60MHz * 2 = 120MHz (P150+)
66MHz * 2 = 133MHz (P166+)
75MHz * 2 = 166MHz (P200+)
Yes, the original Cyrix 6x86-P200+ ran the PCI and ATA beyond
spec, or at async on select chipsets.
The latter 6x86"L" and M2s stuck with a 66MHz FSB, including for
the P200+. I believe they were 66MHz * 2.5x.
