Feature idea: network based livecd installer
by Orion Poplawski
Inspired by Jeff's post -
I'm really impressed with the install speed of the LiveCD installer.
What I'd like to be able to do is to essentially do the same thing over
the network - pxeboot into an environment that can pull the LiveCD image
of the network and install onto the local harddrive. I really haven't
had a chance to look closely at what's involved though. Seem possible?
I'm really disappointed with the speed of installs lately and looking to
speed things up. We do a lot of identical installs here and it would be
nice to do the depsolving/filesystem creation on a fast server and then
just dump it onto the client.

Where on Earth are these addresses :
10.0.0.1
172.16.0.1
192.168.0.1
127.0.0.1
and indeed
fc00::/7
What about systems with more than one interface / address - which one
do you pick ?
Also realize not all computers may be on Earth ( ISS, etc. )
If you build it, don't build it so it only works only now and in only
the simplest situations.

mock config files for Fedora 7? mock building on FC6 for F7 packages?
by Eric Smith
I upgraded one of my development machines to Fedora 7 last night,
and was surprised to not find any mock configuration files for it.
I'd expected something like /etc/mock/fedora-7-{i386,x86_64).cfg.
Before I whip them up myself (which admittedly shouldn't be at all
difficult), has anyone already done that?
I don't plan to upgrade my main build machine to Fedora 7 for a
while yet. Is using a suitable mock configuration on FC6 to build
packages for F7 plausible?
Thanks,
Eric

How much time does it take to configure vanilla kernel to run with
fedora? Can you give me some guide or some general info.
I'm not willing to do this if it takes 5 hours just to see what
happens... if we can draw some mayor conclusion and if I can give some
valuable feedback then I have no problem doing this.
I still need some guide or some howto for making vanilla kernel work
with fedora.
I player with building kernels few years ago but I didn't do it since
them so I'm a bit rusted.
I was doing custome kernel building on suse and I know that suse has
some tools that make that process really easy - tools for copying
existing configuration to new kernel and others.

I use Tele2 in Italy to connect to the Internet, but usually I get
different countries IP 9don't know what is the routing of my
provider), as I can see if I go to www.google.com.
Sometimes I'm diverted to the Belgium goggle page, sometimes to
Holland and more often to Italy....

Mirroring tools
by Orion Poplawski
I'd like to try to reduce the amount of packages that I mirror locally,
especially with the ever increasing amount of large game packages. Has
anyone thought about a tool that could take a list of packages names
generated by something like pungi and generate a include list suitable for
rsync? Then you could do something like:
rsync --include-from rpms_I_want --exclude \*.rpm
Currently I periodically update an exclude list by hand, but this is
getting tiresome.
Just thought about using the output of 'yum groupinfo games' and the like
to generate exclude lists. Maybe that will be easier and sufficient.

X-Chat in Fedora
by Kevin Kofler
I have noticed that Christopher Aillon seems to be way too busy to keep X-Chat
up to date in Fedora. See for example:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=224180
(which is too late to get into the F7 release now, unfortunately (sigh, I
opened this 4 months ago when 2.8.0 was current!), but it could go into
updates). He hasn't even replied to this bug report. Now that Core and Extras
have merged, would it be possible to get a community comaintainer (or even
maintainer) for this package? Seeing how Rémi Collet has been keeping X-Chat up
to date in his repository and how his updated versions have always worked fine
for me, I think he would be a good comaintainer or maintainer for X-Chat (if he
accepts, of course).
