More firewall changes for F-9+
by Thomas Woerner
Hello,
some minutes ago system-config-firewall-1.2.0 has been build for rawhide.
Here are the most important changes:
- New support for port forwarding.
- The chain RH-Firewall-1-INPUT has been dropped.
- Trusted hosts are also added to the FORWARD chain in the filter table.
- The iptables firewall configuration has been optimized.
- Several GUI enhancements.
The TUI is not reflecting the new functionality currently, but will do
in a few days.
Happy testing,
Thomas

Educational spin of fedora
by Huzaifa Sidhpurwala

Hi All,
I am interesting in working for an educational spin of fedora
specially for school children.
I have seen a lot of school children [ sp. in India, not sure about
other places in the world ] fiddle with M$ crap.
I also know a lot of schools which would be really excited in using this
software instead of paying by their nose for licensing.
My initial thoughts is something on the lines of edubuntu but with our
own packages and many more.
Any body out here who want to help me with this?.

Re: bodhi 0.4.10 features
by Alex Lancaster
>>>>> "LM" == Luke Macken writes:

I know this isn't a bodhi problem per se, but another casualty of this
change is that bugs that you were fixing (usually ASSIGNED to you) up
until they were CLOSED would appear on "My Front Page" so you could
keep track of them.
Now once the bug goes to ON_QA, it disappears from the "My Front
Page". It should remain on the "My Front Page" until it is closed
under "Assigned to You" because the header says:
"The bug has been assigned to you and it is not resolved or closed
yet."
and ON_QA falls into this category. Filed (appropriately enough) in
bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=430383

Koji problems?
by Michel Salim
I've just requested, and been granted, the addition of xbacklight to
the package repositories. However, trying to build on both devel and
F8 failed:
376349 build (dist-f9, devel:xbacklight-1_1-1_fc9): open
(xenbuilder4.fedora.phx.redhat.com) -> FAILED: BuildError: package
xbacklight not in list for tag dist-f9
376351 build (dist-f8-updates-candidate, F-8:xbacklight-1_1-1_fc8):
open (xenbuilder2.fedora.redhat.com) -> FAILED: BuildError: package
xbacklight not in list for tag dist-f8-updates-candidate
Anyone knows what is causing this?
Thanks,

Problems with bodhi and security updates
by Ville Skyttä
Hi,
xine-lib 1.1.10, another recent xine-lib security release, was released
yesterday. I tried to get it shipped ASAP, but bodhi does not let me file a
request to push it directly to stable. All the "mark as stable" etc
functionality is visible in the UI, but when invoked, bodhi turns the request
into a testing one (including when it's already in testing!) and tells me
that it's waiting for security team approval.
So, the result is that if I had not marked the package as a security update,
it would be now in the updates repo. Now it's only in testing. Bodhi seems
to be entirely happy with requesting non-security updates directly to stable,
but security ones need to go through testing. To me this logic is the exact
opposite of what it should be (if we want to prevent pushing directly to
stable in the first place).
What am I expected to do now? Do I need to wait/watch when the security team
approval comes and then go try request it to be pushed to stable or will that
happen automatically? I'm tempted to revoke the current request and file it
again as a regular bugfix one so it could go directly to stable updates
ASAP... (only half kidding)
Also, there used to be a text box where I could enter the CVE numbers of
security issues fixed by an update. I don't see it any more, was it removed
on purpose?

[Guideline] Release number for rebuilds
by Michel Salim
Hi all,
I just noticed a mismatch in multisync: F8's 0.91.0-3 removes an
unneeded build dependency, but F9's 0.91.0-3 is just a rebuild against
a newer version of libopensync (and never appeared in Rawhide, for
some reason).
Do we have a guideline for how to bump revision numbers for rebuilds?
It would seem to me that standardizing on adding a 'build number' to
the release number works better:
i.e.
3%{?dist} -> 3%{?dist}.1, 3%{?dist}.2, etc.
That way, when someone updates the stable version and forgot to update
in -devel (ideally this won't happen anyway), sooner or later we'll
notice the N-V-R problem.
Thoughts?

TurboGears-1.0.4.3 & SQLAlchemy
by Luke Macken
TurboGears-1.0.4.2 has just been pushed into updates-testing for F7/F8.
For Fedora 8 users, this update will pull in python-sqlalchemy-0.4.1-1.fc8.
Ideally, this should be a transparent update for the majority of TG apps out
there, however if your application utilizes deprecated SQLAlchemy 0.3.
functionality, it may cause some issues.
Some possible solutions to potential incompatibility problems:
- Add a SQLAlchemy<0.4 requirement to your applications setup.py
- Simply remove the python-sqlalchemy package, which cause your application to
use python-sqlalchemy0.3 instead.
Please speak up if you notice any other issues regarding this update.
Any testing and feedback you can provide will be appreciated.

Package Versioning Feedback
by Richi Plana
Hi,
I wanted to start my own little project and wanted some feedback from
the community who've had much dealings with versioning. My plan is to
use a versioning system similar to most (digits separated by a dot
character) with each successive number being less significant. The only
change in semantics is that the most minor number would be interpreted
as
0 = Alpha
1 = Beta
3+ = Stable
I thought this might be a better way of dealing with projects which
transition to a greater major number. Systems which use .99+ to
designate "almost next major" aren't easy to test as the next major
version (since the computer parses the major version and sees the
previous major version.
Some systems increase the major and tack on the word "alpha" or
"beta" ... which screws up the computer's sorting mechanism (is alpha >
0?)
My question is: will there be any problems with packaging systems like
rpm and yum using such a scheme?
