Fedora 11 Alpha Status
by Jesse Keating
Last night we refreshed the alpha freeze (see koji tag f11-alpha-2).
This will be the content we're using for the Alpha, provided our testing
is successful. Anything else added will only be for critical path
items, that is the path to install, boot, obtain network, and update.
If a reasonable workaround is found for a problem in that path, the work
around will be advertised rather than respinning the Alpha.
Today's rawhide is not functional due to some changes in createrepo/yum.
Newer builds of these packages have been made and tested and added to
the new alpha tag, so tomorrow's rawhide is a bit closer to what the
Alpha will be.
We hope to have the alpha fully composed by midday tomorrow and on its
way to mirrors for staging. I'll announce when this happens. Release
date is still planned for Tuesday, February 3rd.
Thanks all!

AW: 2009-01-29 - Fedora Test Day - Text-mode install removal
by Oliver Falk
As long as you don't break text mode installs on Alpha I'm OK with simplifications... :-)
If you break it -> Lot of bugzillas :-)
And, I think it already has reduced functionality, right?

Betreff: 2009-01-29 - Fedora Test Day - Text-mode install removal
Greetings,
Okay now that I got your attention. Don't worry, text-mode is not going
away. But in order to simplify maintenance it will be greatly reduced
in terms of functionality. =20
I'd like to invite testers and users to join #fedora-qa this Thursday,
January 29, 2009. Test efforts will focus on:
* anaconda text-mode simplification
* Fedora 11 Alpha
Come with questions and/or suggested test areas.
More details will be posted to
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA/Test_Days/2009-01-29.
Hope to see you there,
James

To answer myself, If this policy is ONLY for released Fedoras not Rawhide
I'd have no problem. If this was for rawhide I'd have a problem.

That's what I do normally. Once a Fedora releases, I won't backport to it
unless the changelog mentions something severe. Otherwise resume pushing
periodical updates to rawhide.

I get whatever is in the git changlogs. That's all that's available. If I choose to mention
something important from it I will, otherwise I will just mention a new upstream version
Just like Debian packages do. I see no reason to be any different.

Wiki tip for the week of Jan 26 2009: Moving pages with ease
by Ian Weller
/-----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm introducing a series of blog and mailing list posts helping to
increase knowledge about useful features, policies, and other
important things relating to the Fedora Project wiki. You can see
the end of this post for more information on keeping up with
these.
-----------------------------------------------------------------/
Wiki tip of the week for Jan 26 2009: Moving pages with ease
============================================================
With the new page naming and wiki structure policy[1] in place, a lot of
users on the wiki have recently been moving pages around, and often have
been doing it the manual way: copy the source from one page to another,
and make a redirect[2] by hand. What most users apparently don't realize
is that there is a move button at the top of every page, and any
logged-in user can use that button.
(Images: [3] and [4])
When moving your page it's a very good idea to give a reason for doing
so. You can also choose to move a page's corresponding discussion page
along with it too, if it has one. This is very useful for archiving
pages (simply tack on Archive: at the beginning of the page name) or
moving your old pages. And of course, please watch your pages[5].
Using the move tab automatically creates a redirect and can also
fix other redirects to prevent double redirects[6].
Probably the most important part of using the move tab instead of a
manual move is that page histories are kept across both pages, so it's
much easier to find who edited what and when.
However if the new page already has content (perhaps a #REDIRECT),
MediaWiki won't allow you to move the page (unless you have the power to
delete pages). You'll still need to move the page by hand, in this case.

haldaemon or devicekit for keyboard layout
by Muayyad AlSadi
hi,
I was trying to compose an locale livcd based on fedora
I set the layout in in the .ks
but hal won't get them
as you know the layout is set by /usr/bin/fedora-setup-keyboard which
is called by /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-x11-keymap.fdi
I put some stubs in the script like
echo "1" >>$log
and it was not printed but if I go into runlevel 3 then restarted hal
it will be logged and when I change back to runlevel 5 the layout will
be working
so I added this braindamage to my .ks file
[ -f /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache ] && rm /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache &&
service haldaemon restart
to force hal to start again but this time it will set the layout
my question what is the reason for the early started haldaemon not
running /usr/bin/fedora-setup-keyboard
and will hal be responsible for layout in F11 or it will be devicekit ?

what is the reason,
an update in alsa or pulse or most likely because I edited
/etc/pulse/default.pa by to add
load-module module-hal-detect tsched=0
