qt-5.9.1 coming to rawhide today
by Rex Dieter
fyi, will be importing qt-5.9.1 into rawhide today. There may be temporary
periods of inconsistent dependencies while builds are underway, but it
should be sorted out quickly.
Please let us (kde-sig) know if anything breaks, thanks.

Starting an x86_32 SIG
by Stephen John Smoogen
This is a notice to see if people are really interested in having a
SIG on 32 bit Intel. I haven't created a SIG so I am researching what
is needed but I started with this page
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Architectures/x86
which mirrors the various other Architecture pages I looked at. A
Special Interest Group etc would be founded on this. I don't know if a
'mailing' list is wanted etc.
The steps I see are:
1. Whatever chartering work is needed to get a SIG together.
2. A formal statement as requested by some users about the architecture
3. A survey of problems on the architecture.
4. A hardware selection the SIG are going to focus on.
5. What product the SIG is planning to deliver.
I expect there are other things, but I just want to get those out of
the way as should haves.

Unicenta fedora build
by Jeremy C
Hello,
I am wanting to build a copy of Unicenta which is an open source Point of
Sales system. It is currently not in the Fedora repository's. The program uses
a GNU GPL license. I am wondering if it is all OK to run the build?
As you may be able to tell I am new to the whole contributing to the operating
system thing.

PCRE2 10.30-RC1 changes
by Petr Pisar
PCRE2 upstream released 10.30-RC1, a release candidate for 10.30. This
version will have three major changes:
(1) libpcre2-posix.so library changed ABI and SONAME to
libpcre2-posix.so.2. There is no other user of this library in Fedora's x86_64
repository, thus no mass rebuild is needed. Still this limits the
package upgrade to rawhide only. (libpcre2-*.so libraries remain
backward-compatible, after a small fix
<https://lists.exim.org/lurker/message/20170720.111013.7f8f78d3.en.html>).
(2) The main matching implementation was rewritten from a stack-based
recursive algorithm to a heap-based one. This should fix a well-known weak
point of this library and that was a stack exhaustion followed by a
SIGSEGV. There shouldn't be any performance penalty (actually the new
implementation seems to be a little bit faster).
(3) Upstream provides optional SELinux-friendly JIT allocator that does
not suffer from executable-and-writable memory pages
<https://bugs.exim.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1749>. I'd like to enable
it. The only drawback is the JIT compiler creates anonymous temporary
files in $TMPDIR or /tmp. This can trigger a new set of SELinux denials.
The library will fall back to non-JIT mode in that case.
I will give some time to upstream to handle my patches and then I will
push the release candidate to the Fedora 27.
If somebody thinks a self-contained (?) Fedora Change is necessary,
I can create it.

git - wrong paths in documentation files
by Petr Stodulka
Hi folks,
I am looking at the #1357438 BZ about broken links to "How to*" doc files and I am thinking,
about the best solution of this. Problem is with using of %doc macro, which moves/copies
doc files to specific directories of each subpackage. However the Makefile expects that will
be used just one directory, where all documentation will be included.
It can be fixed basically in two ways:
1) Do not use %doc macro and keep all Doc files under common directory,
e.g. /usr/share/doc/git/
ignoring the sub-package that install specific doc files.
2) Use sed for affected doc files to modify path correctly.
The 1st method seems much better for me, because doc files will be together and in case of changes
of doc files or another split/rename/merge of packages, it will be still OK. The 2nd method would
provide incompatible solution in future when another changes in doc files will be provided or
split of packages will be different.
I haven't seen any requirement in packaging guidelines, that we have to put all files to specific
directories bounded with specific subpackage, so why do not use '/usr/share/doc/git'?. The third option
would be create symlink, but that solution seems ugly to me.
What do you think? In case we will want to change filelist, I would prefer make this change in F26
yet too.
Thanks for feedback/advice,
Petr

Fedora Atomic WG - Changes to IRC/Mailing list
by Dusty Mabe
TL;DR There is a new fedora atomic mailing list [1] and IRC channel [2], but the mailing list
should only be used for automated messages and the IRC channel should be used only
when something extremely Fedora specific (like releng bits) is being discussed. Otherwise
please use the upstream project atomic mailing list [3] and IRC channel [4] for everything.
The cloud* list and IRC channel should be no longer used for atomic specific discussions.
In an attempt to minimize the confusion around the relationship between
the Fedora Atomic Working Group and the Fedora Cloud SIG we have decided [5]
to have a new mailing list [1] and irc channel [2] for Fedora Atomic.
Since there is an upstream project atomic mailing list [3] and irc channel [4] already
we have decided that the new fedora atomic mailing list and irc channels should
be narrow in focus and actually push discussion towards the upstream project
atomic mailing list and irc channel. This is mostly so we can get more people
talking about the same problems in one place and have some cross pollination.
The new communication model:
Mailing Lists:
* atomic(a)lists.fedoraproject.org This list is for all automated messages and cc'd
on announcements. It is not a discussion list; discussions on it will be either
(a) cc'd to atomic-devel or (b) redirected to a pagure issue as appropriate.
* atomic-devel(a)projectatomic.io will be used for all mailing list discussions.
IRC:
* all discussions of general topics around Fedora Atomic, including contents,
containerized kube, container reviews, ostree changes, etc, etc. will be on #atomic.
* discussions and troubleshooting Fedora build pipeline/releng (bodhi, punji, etc.)
for Atomic will be on the new channel #fedora-atomic. Content discussions which start
there will get re-directed to #atomic.
Please take this opportunity to subscribe to any new mailing lists and join any new irc
channels you find appropriate.
