Sure. Particularly if you don't set up your /etc/nsswitch.conf correctly. Hence the 'YMMV'.
In general, we assume zero-trust and avoid enabling auto-anything. We add trust and loosen constraints, cautiously, when said 'regressions elsewhere' absolutely demand it.
Avoids the 'fun' of accidentally exposing a printer queue in the CEOs office ;-)
