Is that intentional that i get some random notifications from Discourse
or what is going on? In past month, I was notified about following topics:
* Join us for the EPEL office hours every month [Fedora] epel
* Self-intro glaringgibbon [Fedora] introductions
* It's #FedoraShareYourScreen week [Fedora] events
* Tempted to switch full-time to Fedora, but I got some noob questions
[Fedora] introductions
And I wonder why? Does Discourse want to be completely muted or what?

Yes I was wondering why I seemed to be subscribed to some random
things as soon as I signed up... I think I've managed to unsubscribe
from them all now after a bit of fiddling but it's not very clear
from the emails which rule exactly has triggered them.

Because of #introductions tag is watched. But why? I have have not set
anything like this by myself. And I am apparently not the only one who
noticed:

I put #introductions in the default for "watching first post" because ... I
think seeing and welcoming new people joining our community is a good
default. But you can adjust these under:

... and I expect most people will want to, just as you would decide which
mailing lists to subscribe to.

Frankly, I think most existing maintainers will not be interested in all
those self-introductions. If the new maintainer ends up working on the same
set of packages, they will get to know each other soon enough anyway,
otherwise, the interest will obviously be limited.
So I am not convinced that this is a valid reason for sending a notification
e-mail by default.

Fedora Discussion is not only for maintainers, it is for all kinds of
discussion about Fedora. Package maintainers are probably not even the
primary audience, because devel mailing list is so well established.
Personally, I do not have anything against a setting up some
notifications on first login. Having Introductions as one of them also
seems reasonable to me.
However, if Vít and others already had a Discussion account and had all
notifications, I do understand that it is irritating and confusing to
suddenly start getting notifications. User preferences should be honored.
Regarding notifying about this change, it was actually announced at
devel-announce [1]. But, the announcement is long and it is not clear,
if mentioned at all, that the notification settings of existing users
will be adjusted.

When I did the migration from the previous discourse setup to the new one, I
attempted as much as possible to preserve any explicitly-changed user
preferences for subscriptions. For people who hadn't made any changes to the
defaults, they got the new defaults -- which I think is what happened here.
I might have made some mistakes, for which I apologize. I don't expect any
big changes like this in the forseeable.

It would be nice to announce something like this. I am really not into
discourse and I don't plan to spend any time configuring it, so it would
at least spare me from wondering what is this about.
BTW this kind of nontransparency without logging into UI to have at
least chance to understand what is going on is the reason I won't be
using discourse.
