Attaching Samsung ML printers (e.g. ML-1660) registers such a printer
with an URI as usb://... . But its's not possible to work with such a
printer :-(
The only way is to use the Samsung package
UnifiedLinuxDriver_0.86.tar.gz. It installs such a printer too with an
URI as usb://..., but then it is fully operable.
Additionally, no splix package available in F15.
On the other hand, the attach process in *Ubuntu 11.04* leaves a fully
operable printer without any need for interaction.
Why this difference?

Summary: Maybe others (and me) have tried to package it for Fedora. But
there's an (optional) non-open source part for picture processing and
it's unclear if you need it for your special printer type or if it is
only to improve performance of the driver to printer communication.
Suggestion: Just take and use the rpm of openprinting to have fun :)
My Samsung ML-1640 is working well with openprinting.

Oh, the 1660 is not listed at openprinting. Maybe write to openprinting
why not, too new model?
I guess Fedora can not do anything about your issue, unfortunately.
Btw. Have you tried to copy the PPD file over from the original Samsung
driver package? CUPS should work with it, sometimes you'll need also a
special additional filter/converter file or so.

Just out of interest, have you tried the ML-1610 driver from the foomatic
database with it. That one has worked fine for me with the ML-1640.

Is the 1660 some how different than the 1710 in driver parlance? I have
a samsung ML-1710 that's been happily printing for years on my
continually upgraded Fedora box, without me installing anything in
particular.
