Hi, Dave, everyone:
I am looking at publishing a git repository for a Fedora kernel fork, and
I am running against the standard quota at people.redhat.com. Specifically,
while space is there (barely), an non-packed repo has too many files. Also,
it's a serious pain to upload the whole repo every time. It takes hours
across my modem. So, I'd like to be able to use rsync.
Do I have any options within the project? I'm not on welfare, I can pay
my own hosting... Just thought to ask because I feel more comfortable
within our own tent.

http://hosted.fedoraproject.org has git space should you need it. Uses the
Fedora Account System for authentication for write, otherwise you can pull
anonymously (once we get gitweb setup correctly). You can have a git repo
without having a Trac instance, should you not want/need it.

This sounds pefect. I was reading the Wiki and it looks like I need to
create a project as a first step. Do I get it right?

Only if you want a project page. If you don't want a project space in Trac,
we can still accomidate you with a git repo.
I did notice that there is already a set of git kernel repos on the git
server: http://git.fedoraproject.org/kernel/
Do you know anything about those? I don't quite know who all uses them, I've
been putting new repos into the /git/hosted/ directory space, and managing
access via Fedora Account System.
Oh, and git:// is working fine for anon clones.

I did notice that there is already a set of git kernel repos on the
git
server: http://git.fedoraproject.org/kernel/
I publish my utrace GIT repo there. That was set up before all the fancier
Fedora project stuff was there.

Er, why would you either upload the whole repo each time _or_ use rsync?
What's wrong with 'git-push' over ssh?

Obviously you're welcome to an account on git.infradead.org, but it
sounds like that's not what you're after.

Oh duh, sorry. I just found that charlotte allows access from VPN. I thought
it wasn't the case. So yes, I can ssh there, but still, it does not
help with running over the file quota, and she does not have git installed.

Not entirely sure what the above means. If you weren't previously able
to SSH into it, how _did_ you ever put stuff on it?

Yeah. And it won't be able to export it to the world in any sensible
fashion either. Seriously, just put it elsewhere. You do nobody any
favours by making them try to get it from a server which doesn't have
git:// running.
