newly signed packages
by Michael Favia
in spite of the yum metadata issues i would like to thank someone for
deciding to start signing these (will it be all?) packages. It really
helps guarantee authenticity of the packages and lets me update them
with a little more piece of mind. Please keep in mind that signatures
only guarantee authenticity and do not certify functionality. i hope
that the fedora testing community understands these difference because
that was the reason given for not signing the packages when i asked last
year. -mf

Compilation problem with gcc 4.1, c++ include files
by Matthias Saou
Hi,
I'm running into a problem while trying to recompile aMule on FC
development. I'm not sure what nor who to blame, so I prefer posting here
before filing a bug against gcc :
[...]
configure:6562: checking that wxWidgets has support for large files
configure:6576: g++ -E -I/usr/lib64/wx/include/gtk2-unicode-release-2.6
-I/usr/include/wx-2.6 -DGTK_NO_CHECK_CASTS -D__WXGTK__
-D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGE_FILES -DNO_GCC_PRAGMA conftest.cc
In file included from /usr/include/wx-2.6/wx/string.h:170,
from /usr/include/wx-2.6/wx/memory.h:20,
from /usr/include/wx-2.6/wx/object.h:25,
from /usr/include/wx-2.6/wx/wx.h:16,
from conftest.cc:2:
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-redhat-linux/4.1.0/../../../../include/c++/4.1.0/string:44:28:
error: bits/c++config.h: No such file or directory
[...]
In that "string" file there is :
#include <bits/c++config.h>
But /usr/include/c++/4.1.0/bits/c++config.h does not exist, I can only
find /usr/include/c++/4.1.0/i386-redhat-linux/bits/c++config.h.
This is on x86_64 while trying to rebuild in a mach minimal chroot.
Any pointers welcome!
Matthias

More mass rebuilds for GCC
by Jesse Keating
As you'll notice, there will be lots more packages bumped for the rebase
to gcc. Most completed today, but we'll be working through a list of
failures over the next couple days. Things will still be in a bit of
flux, but we're working on it.
Java is still being worked on too. Getting the java stack built with
gcj is a great accomplishment and I really respect our java and gcj team
for putting in the work to further the free java. Please bare with us
as we finalize the development changes necessary to accomplish this
task.

Weird dbus problem when not using GDM (but custom scripts)
by Chris Chabot
Hi All, i've had a weird dbus problem: Every program was shouting at me
it could not determine the address of the dbus daemon.
So the first thing i looked at was my hostname and /etc/hosts and it
turned out everything was fine there :-)
So my second guess was that it would probably be that i bypass all the
normal login / gdm stuff and run some custom scripts from inittab:
in inittab (runlevel 3):
1:2345:respawn:/usr/bin/x1.sh
/usr/bin/x1.sh:
#!/bin/bash
export
PATH=/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin
export PS1="[\u@\h \W]\\$ "
export USER=root
export HOME=/root
unset SHLVL
exec bash -l -c "exec /usr/bin/xinit /usr/bin/x2.sh &> /root/.xlog"
and /usr/bin/x2.sh:
#!/bin/bash
cd /root
xhost +
xrdb -merge /root/.Xresources
exec gnome-session
Now why run such scripts you might ask .. well i love it that my
computer boots up logged in right away, without any logins .. its
protected by the front door of my house with locks, so need for all that
repetitive password typing, just let me do my business as soon as
posible! :-) Also if i have a need to restart X, its just a
ctrl-alt-backspace away and i'm automaticly right back in a fresh x
session.. just some creature comforts i've grown used to
Well it turns out after some googeling that by using such custom shells
scripts instead of the propper GDM the dbus envirioment settings were
never set that dbus-launch is supposed to set (gnome-session doesn't
start it?)
So i've modified my x2.sh script into:
#!/bin/bash
cd /root
killall -9 dbus-daemon
sleep 1
/usr/bin/dbus-launch --sh-syntax &> /tmp/dbus-env
. /tmp/dbus-env
rm -f /tmp/dbus-env
xhost +
xrdb -merge /root/.Xresources
exec gnome-session
Does this look propper to anyone with some dbus experiance? Everything
does seem to work perfect again, so i think so :-)
Just weird that gnome-session doesn't take care of this, when its
clearly a required part of the gnome session?
Is it worth filing any bugs for this, or am i misunderstanding the
situation?

mozilla-config gone in FC5?
by Neal Becker
I'm trying to build vlc. It is looking for mozilla-config. This used to be
provided by
rpm -q -f /usr/bin/mozilla-config
mozilla-nspr-devel-1.7.12-1.5.1
I can't find it for FC5.
