New system-config-httpd out for testing
by Phil Knirsch
Hi folks.
After a long time i've finally found some time to fix some long standing
bugs and integrate some of the fundamental changes that were required to
keep this tool usable and working.
system-config-httpd-1.4.1-1.fc7
should be available now for development, an update version for FC6 and
FC5 will follow in the next few days.
Please let me know if something ain't working for you (via bugzilla ofc ;) .
Thanks,
Read ya, Phil

Firefox 3
by Janina Sajka
Does anyone know of any rpm builds of Firefox 3? I'm aware it's nowhere
near ready for prime time, but I have a compelling reason to start using
ff3 fairly soon and would rather install from rpm, of course.
BTW: My compelling reason is that FF3 will contain a11y support that
should prove superior to any yet seen on any platform. Fingers crossed,
etc ...

.fc6 kernel packages in developement
by Gianluca Sforna
I just noticed the development repo was updated with a new kernel
(2.6.18-1.2849) but the pakcages have the .fc6 dist tag: this prevents
me from building sysprof-kmod for development since the "make tag"
fails because the tag is already used on the FC-6 branch.
I there a reason for this .fc6 packages in devel?

GPL2 Java?
by dragoran
Sun is going to release java under the gpl2 license see:
http://blogs.sun.com/dannycoward/entry/java_me,_se_and_ee
how would this affect fedora? Will this be included and replace the gcj
stuff?
Can both be installed in parrallel? (using alternatives it should work
like it does now)
which would mean one of them have to go to extras...

Besides, at least to me it isn't clear (yet?) they are GPLing everything
you'd need to /use/ Java in anger... Also, gcj is a native compiler too, it
could very well be that filling in the rough spots from Sun's Java is the
way to go in the end.

At least one user is reporting .AppleDB corruption on FC6 in upstream
mail lists.
I personally have seen .AppleDB corruption when building netatalk
against db4 packages older than 4.1.25.
I will soon be migrating one of our more heavily used file servers
that runs netatalk to FC6.
I would recommend building development netatalk packages against
db-4.2.52 to minimize end user .AppleDB corruption.
Upstream moves slowly, so getting a fix there to be compatible with
new db4 is not likely soon.

EPOLLRDHUP
by Tyler Larson
The man page for epoll_ctl lists an event flag, EPOLLRDHUP, functionally
analogous to POLLRDHUP, used to detect a peer shutdown. However,
<sys/epoll.h> does not define that symbol. (FC 6, BTW)
The question is, which one's right? Is the symbol simply missing from
epoll.h, but all other aspects of the implementation are in place? Or is
epoll.h correct, and the man page incorrectly states that the flag
should exist?
Phrased differently, should a bug be filed against glibc-headers or
man-pages?

What about creating a "minimal daily (weekly, ...) rawhide CD", with just
enough stuff to check that the installer (and the suchly installed system)
works? I.e., kernel(s) and related stuff, perhaps up to X and Gnome? No
fancy alternatives, etc. That way the risk of massive breakage is lower,
and the result is easier on downloaders and testers.

network-scripts still don't support WPA. At present, the simplest way to use
WPA is by using NetworkManager, but for us people who don't want to have to
log in to activate networking, another solution is required.
I've made some changes to the network scripts to handle WPA if you want to
use it when the interfaces are brought up on startup.
http://choralone.org/cruft/random/ns.diff
They are by no means perfect, and I vaguely remember that there are some
alterations I need to make to them in order to complete them.
To get them working, download the diff.
cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/
patch -p1 < /path/to/ns.diff
Then edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/wpa_supplicant.conf - insert the
details of your WPA network into that file. Then edit the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ethN interface and add:
WPA=yes
WPADRIVER=(hostap|prism54|madwifi|atmel|wext|ndiswrapper|wired)
(pick one WPADRIVER - I use wext on my Intel ipw2200 & ipw2915 cards)
As I remember, this needs to be altered as wired interfaces can be 802.1x
managed and this inserts WPA code into the wireless scripts.
Once I've completed these and am happy that they will be robust for use,
I'll see if anyone upstream is interested. But I don't know if the intention
is to handle WPA in the network scripts.
