Hello!
I've used it yesterday for lcdproc intial import.
Everything seem to work fine... (tagged and built)
I didn't noticed that something could be wrong about cvs-import.sh.
Thx

[Guidelines Change] PHP Changes
by Tom Callaway
Changes were made to http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/PHP
===========================
The php-common package In Fedora Core 6 and above (version 5.1.6-3.4)
uses new virtual provides to ensure ABI compatility, and usefull macros
to test for it (ref.: /etc/rpm/macros.php in php-devel.)
The new versions provide:
* php(api): PHP Api Version
* php(zend-abi) : Zend Module Api No
Older versions only provide:
* php-api : PHP Api Version
Therefore the guidelines for the PECL Requires section were updated to
include the following information:
{{{
%if %{?php_zend_api}0
Requires: php(zend-abi) = %{php_zend_api}
Requires: php(api) = %{php_core_api}
%else
Requires: php-api = %{php_apiver}
%endif
Provides: php-pecl(foo)
}}}
This will ensure ABI compatiblity while also maintaining backwards
compatibility with older versions of php. After FC-6 is deprecated,
maintaining backwards compatiblity should no longer be required in the
guidelines. The PEAR section just above the PECL section was also
reformatted so that it is contained within wiki code blocks for
consistency.
===========================
The Macros and Scriptlets section of the PHP guidelines now has a
versioned BuildRequires of:
BuildRequires: php-pear >= 1:1.4.9-1.2
The reason for this is because the macros are only defined after this
version. See https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=227190
Bug #227190 for an example of how the current guidelines are confusing.

[Guidelines Change] DistTag changes
by Tom Callaway
The DistTag guidelines (found here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging/DistTag) have had some changes
committed.
There are some additional macros for DistTag that make it much easier to
conditionalize inside of spec files.
Two helper macros were added:
%{fc#} and %{el#} (where # is the value of %{fedora} or %{rhel}, respectively).
This means that if %{fedora} is set to 7, the following macro is set:
%define fc7 1
This permits easier conditionalization in spec files. For example, with
these defines, you can do:
%{?el5: a}
%{?el4: b}
%{?fc7: Requires: foo}
%{?fc6: Requires: bar}
Without these macros, you have to resort to:
%if "%rhel" == "5"
a
%endif
%if "%rhel" == "4"
b
%endif
%if "%rhel" == "3"
c
%endif
%if "%rhel" == "2"
d
%endif
Keep in mind the words of wise old Uncle Ben: With great power comes great responsibility.
Use these conditional helper macros sparingly.
Also, all references to "Fedora Core" or "Fedora Extras" were replaced by ninjas to "Fedora".

Suggestion: separate gecko package?
by Martin Sourada
Hi guys,
I just though a little about how effective (or rather the opposite) my Fedora
installation is regarding web software. I mean, I use, for various reasons,
epiphany which needs gecko to run, liferea feed reader which uses gecko
(optionally?), listen which uses gecko via python bindings, etc. and firefox -
which I do not use - to provide the gecko libraries. And what more? I have TWO
geckos in my machine! Thunderbird has its own one.
I don't want to complain much more about it, but I just thought it would be more
effective if gecko, as is usual with linux libraries, would be distributed
separately from firefox/thunderbird/seamonkey and maybe even those patched to
use shared gecko instead of their own. While it would make development of
mozilla web software harder, I think it would have great benefit for development
of many other packages which depends on gecko-libs and in turn need to be
rebuilt every time firefox is updated. Also I think it would make sense if we'd
cooperate with mozilla in this case as much as possible.
What do you think? Is it reasonable? Is it even possible? Does it make sense to
you? I just would like to bring a discussion about this and maybe offer some
help with it afterwards (in case we would chose to make it separate).
Thanks,
Martin
