Can you explain please?
If you're serious about developing Java applications, you're not going to use an
uncertified JDK to do it. Every customer uses a certified runtime and you must ensure to
be compliant with it. And leaving OpenJDK is an even worse idea after all the efforts to
keep OpenJDK as full OSS and emancipate it from Oracle governance. It's the best we
have and what has been arduously fought for. So, OpenJDK is an asset for Fedora (and all
the other distributions), thanks to the Fedora/Red Hat (or Red Hat / Fedora?) Java team.
I don't quite yet overlook the practical implications of the proposal and am a little
bit uncomfortable. If Fedora X uses newer versions of gcc and various libraries than
Fedora X-2 (or even Epel = Fedora X-(4+), I imagine that could get problematic.
But if I understand the change proposal correctly, everything is already tested and
working so far. And if there's ever a problem, hopefully we'll discover it in time
in Rawhide and the Java team find a solution.
