But a note: from the rpm-ostree perspective, we intend to still fully support client side
layering. Obviously this change suddenly makes it very straightforward to do derivative
server-side layering/builds, and there's been a lot of excitement around that. I do
expect most even semi-technical users to do this. But it's not clear to me that we
should say that's the *only* path and at a technical level today a lot of work went
into keeping that functionality. For example, today for OpenShift for example we client
side package layer kernel-rt and a few other things. I obviously want us to move to
always building an image, but it needs some work.
There's also valid use cases around things like "I want to ssh to this one
machine and install kernel-debug".
