I think different people want different things from an LTS though. CentOS makes it hard
to do e.g. Postgres 10 and Python3 which Ubuntu ships out of the box in 1804. Modularity
seems like it will help in this regard.

Rings and modules should go away indeed, but spins should not! We have had
spins since Fedora 7! They are part of the success story of Fedora.
What should be dropped, though, is the artificial distinction between
"editions" and "spins". Everything should be an equally-featured
spin, and
the GNOME spin should be called GNOME spin.
