That's a packaging bug; either thunderbird should obsolete _and_
provide thunderbird-lightning or thunderbird-lightning-gdata should be
changed to require thunderbird instead of -lightning. You should file
a bug so that the issue is tracked/fixed.
Thought that might be the case, but hadn't been able to find out
whether the lightning package really had been retired or if it was
just one of the metadata caching problems you occasionally run into.
