FWIW, I run a headless home music server named musicbox that uses PA

Thanks, no matter what other people think.. i think it helps to have a
specific implementation
example to use as a baseline reference. Is mpd even in the mainline
Fedora repository? Or am I blind?
The only problem I ran into was in trying to get PA to run as a
system-wide daemon. I had to track down why it couldn't
open /dev/snd/*, and finally worked out that it was a permissions
problem, easily fixed using ConsoleKit.
All that to say that except for the permissions problems, it just
worked.
Is this fixable via some change in default policy that can be done via
packaging payload or via mpd scriptlet? Or does this have to be done
via local admin action? I will admit that ConsoleKit still confuses
me because it runs counter to muscle memory.
