Many of the underlying tools are available already (eg. hdparm -t,
iostat, smartd, lspci, xdpyinfo, /proc, lshal) but wrapping them in a
GUI would be useful for beginners.
Yes a wrapper around all this tools would be quite useful indeed using
something like PyGTK. Red Hat support relies on sysreport extensively
which is why I pointed it out to give an idea on what information would
be useful to collect.
