Hello,
I cloned the package's git repository and built it for f29: I can run
`xfce4-screensaver` in one terminal and ignore a warning [1] and
I forgot to put the warning, it complained about not finding
GnomeSessionSomething, but it's gone after a reboot.
then run `xfce4-screensaver-command -l` in a different terminal
and there you go, screen locked :)
How do I integrate it in my overall Xfce setup? I'll check whether it
shows up in the settings manager after a reboot when I'm not busy
using my laptop.
Still not sure how to piece everything together. The screensaver
preferences don't show up in the settings manager after rebooting.
Then I tried running xflock4 but nothing was happening, so I tried running this:
strings /usr/bin/xflock4 | less
I was caught off guard by the output :D
So patching xflock4 to make it aware of xfce4-screensaver should be
trivial, if it's not already done upstream. I went into the settings editor
and manually set the LockCommand to `xfce4-screensaver-command -l`
and my Ctrl+Alt+L shortcut is functional again.
Whether I try the -l or -a option of xfce4-screensaver-command I get
the same result, a lock screen with the f29 wallpaper and a nice
login/session switch dialog (just in case, not being ironic here). I'm
not sure how to get a blank screen and so far setting the timer to 1
minute and leaving the laptop alone doesn't seem to be enough. If I
lock the screen (and get the login dialog) then eventually it goes
blank. It happened once, and when it did I could no longer use the
keyboard. If anyone is running into this my workaround was to click
"Switch User" and enter my ongoing session from there.
Being of the blank screen persuasion, I haven't tested the
xscreensaver hack compatibility.
One thing I was hoping for was to let bluetooth commands through (so I
can play/pause music without unlocking my session) but no luck there.
I may have to poke at the DBUS interface to see what they have to offer
with media keys.
I understand this is alpha quality software, this is how far my testing
went (for now=).
