Package updater

Folks,
Why in name of all that is good do we have this silly
small dialogs that are close to impossible to use?!?
This is annoying beyond belief.
In the package updater (the one that comes up when you
get a notification that updates are available), the
"Details" window is just a *few* pixels in height!!!
To use the darn thing, I have to always:
* enter my root password (why oh why?)
* open the details (why not have them open by default?)
* resize the window to be wider (why not use the screen size?)
To add insult to injury, when there are errors
(or additional deps required), I have a tiny dialog
popup, with "details". so I have to:
* click to open the details (again, should be open
by default, they are always interesting)
* resize the dialog to a decent size, or else everything
is unreadable
This has been like this for a long time. In terms of UI,
it is brutal (the textual interface is way nicer). Is it
just me that finds this so offensive?

gripe/question: /etc/sysconfig/system-config-firewall???

Anybody care to explain to me the logic of the file
/etc/sysconfig/system-config-firewall
which makes my kickstart and/or lokkit invocations not be respected?
I.e. port 22 remains open even if I do
lokkit --enabled
(or just firewall --enabled in kickstart)
It seems like if anything lokkit should be writing this file, not
reading one installed by an rpm. But maybe I just need a clue. ???

Crashes in OpenLDAP and Sylpheed

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/361461 contains two different backtraces for
segfaults on x86_64, once in OpenLDAP and another time in Sylpheed's
LDAP code.
I'm still unable to reproduce this on x86, and upstream couldn't either
yet. Can anyone else reproduce this at least? Proof-reading the code I've
found memory leaks and other issues, but not the reason that would make
the code crash as in the backtrace.

Review swaps

I'm interested in swapping reviews. I've currently got 3 packages
awaiting review. The first 2 are prerequisites for findbugs, which I
hope to package up once these are in (modulo my ability to deal with
findbugs' modified version of BCEL). The third one is a prerequisite
for several other packages, such as nutch [1] and choco [2].

PPC needs lots more stack space in rawhide??

I'm having a tough time trying to get mysql rebuilt in rawhide: the ppc
build keeps failing like this:

Normally what a failure in execution_constants means is that the
configuration constant STACK_MIN_SIZE has to be increased, because the
error-recovery code needs more stack space than it did before. We have
for years had to run that a bit higher than what mysql.com ships, but up
to now 16384 has worked fine across all arches (all 7 redhat arches,
not just Fedora). Sometime since 13 Dec 2007, however, the behavior
of the ppc arch changed in rawhide, and now even boosting the number
by 50% (to 24K) doesn't persuade it to work. I could try larger
numbers, at the cost of also increasing DEFAULT_THREAD_STACK which
is a pretty user-visible number. I am wondering if this isn't a bug
in rawhide, though. Has gcc started making PPC stack frames a lot
larger than before? Maybe glibc has gotten more stack-hungry? I'd
guess on the problem being in gettext() or related code, if it is a
glibc change, but I haven't tracked it down exactly.
I can't prove at the moment that the problem affects *only* PPC, but
given that that build always dies first it seems pretty likely.
If anyone has a clue what to look at, I'd appreciate it.

Check for libgnomeui failing in rawhide

This configure check is failing in rawhide:
PKG_CHECK_MODULES([GNOMEUI], [libgnomeui-2.0 libgnome-2.0 >= 2.14], ,
[have_gnomeui=no])
This is despite the fact that the spec file includes
BuildRequires: libgnomeui-devel >= 2.14
This was working as recently as Sunday. Anyone know what changed?

Install of FC8 stack trace on Thinkpad T43

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone has run across this problem:
I'm attempting to install FC8 on a IBM Thinkpad T43. The DVD boots just
fine, I select to Install (in either GUI or text mode). Various kernel
modules are loaded and then the install dies with a stack trace.
At first I thought it was a memory issue, so I ran the mem test from the
DVD but everything passed. Then I thought that perhaps the DVD was
somehow damaged so I ran the test to check the media, that was fine too.
Oddly enough FC7 installs without issue.

Helping out with broken deps due to openssl changes

Hi All,
I noticed in todays rawhide report that there are still quite a few packages
whcih are broken due to the openssl update.
I know these are the non trivial rebuild cases. I would hereby like to offer to
help. So anyone interested in receiving some help in getting their package(s)
fixed?
