I build a number of packages for my customers, most of which would work out
well in the fedora repository(http://www.bravegnuworld.com/yum/fc/1/rpms/ for
list)
I do QA on my own packages, will help w/ others.
I'm ugly.
I've worked on:
Aurora (Now gone away), added rh support.
busybox, added human readable support, and some other minor stuff
config-dhcpd, it's all me
some other ones too. google "rjune(a)bravegnuworld.com" or
"rjune(a)imagestream.com" if you want more.
I know php, bash, c, c++, gtk, qt, python, perl, sql, and some other stuff not
worth mentioning.
You shouldn't trust me. I'm an evil dictator bent on world domination. I
figure if my work is already in FC1 via busybox, then I can't be all bad.

The thing is that including mysql 4 most likely means replacing mysql 3
with mysql 4. That renders a few other packages in fedora core that uses
the mysql libraries "illegal". And I for one would really not GPL our code
that uses mysql. There are a few things one could do:
Include both mysql 3 and 4 in Fedora Core. Packages that uses the client libraries
would link to the mysql 3 ones.
Or, remove mysql support for the packages that will have license problems
with the GPL'ed libraries.

Concerning permission differences in client machines and servers, care
would have to be taken in an NIS or LDAP environment if the server and
client machines had the same /etc/sudoers file. (Yes, that would be a
sysadmin mistake) This is, unless the "wheel" group security depended
also on local console access. This would prevent a local "wheel" group
user (NIS/LDAP) from logging on remotely to another user's machine and
changing settings without being in front of the console. Makes sense
right?

Package Request: MultiSync
by Jack Aboutboul
Name: MultiSync
Version: .81
License: GPL
Website: http://www.multisync.org
Actively Maintained?: Yes
Packages exist? yes
(http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=64305)
Description:
MultiSync is a free modular program to synchronize calendars,
addressbooks and other PIM data between programs on your computer and
other computers, mobile devices, PDAs or cell phones. MultiSync works on
any Gnome platform, such as Linux.
Reasons for requesting:
MultiSync is a great software package that has been missing from linux
and gnome for a long time. It really helps you keep all your PIM data
together and current. This is a great package to include for a user
platform. MultiSync helps give the user "virtually seemless" integration
with all their consumer electronic devices. It also makes a users
digital life more cohesive. It syncs well with many platforms, through
plugins, for the follwing: (Note: not all plugins must be installed)
Ximian Evolution synchronization, supporting calendar, ToDos and
contacts.
* IrMC Mobile Client synchronization (supported by e.g.
SonyEricsson T68i/T610/Z600, Siemens S55 phones etc.) via
Bluetooth or IR on Linux, or cable connection.
* Windows CE / Pocket PC synchronization. This plugin is part of
the SynCE project, and can be downloaded there.
* Opie and Zaurus synchronization.
* SyncML support (supported by e.g. SonyEricsson P800/P900 and
many other phones and devices). SyncML also allows you to do
remote connection of two MultiSync programs via an encrypted
connection over the net.
* Palm synchronization.
* LDAP synchronization.
* Backup of your PIM data.
Rough Software requirements: (Note: not all plugins must be installed)
MultiSync sync engine:
* Gnome libraries
* Bonobo
* ORBit
* libpthread
Evolution Plugin:
* Evolution 1.4.X
IrMC Sync Plugin:
* For Bluetooth:
* bluez-kernel >= 2.3
* bluez-libs >= 2.3
* bliez-sdp >= 1.0pre1
* For IRDA:
* irda-utils
* openobex 0.9.8 or >= 1.0.0
SyncML Plugin:
* libcrypto (OpenSSL)
* libwbxml (For WBXML support)
Opie Plugin:
* libcurl
* libexpat
* libcrypto (OpenSSL)
Backup Plugin:
* Only the sync engine requirements.

Package request template
by seth vidal
Hi Everyone,
A thought that came up was maybe having a structured way of requesting
new packages in the 'wishlist' thread.
So maybe having a simple template you follow for posting to the list for
new package ideas:
Name: mypackage
Version: 1.1
License: GPL
Website: http://linux.duke.edu/mypackage/
Actively Maintained?: yes
Packages exist?: yes (http://linux.duke.edu/mypackage/rpm/)
Description:
This is mypackage it does wonderful things. I especially like the
--curediseases --solveworldhunger --promotepeace and --makedaylonger
options.
Reasons for requesting:
I like it a lot, it works well and it fits in well with the other
panacea packages available in the panacea desktop.
Rough Software Requirements:
libpeace
libfood
libvaccine
libpipedreams
gtk+ >= 2.2
=======
If everyone would do the background research to fill in this template
for your wishlist package it would help out a lot.
Addendums to the templater are welcome.

Well, I think that's just because they are inept. I have asked them about
that before, but I think they were too inept to understand the question. I
find these pages more explicit:
http://www.mysql.com/products/mysql++/index.html
http://www.mysql.com/documentation/mysql++/D_Copyright.html
I know that's talking about the C++ library, but it's hard to see how the
C++ wrapper of a GPL library could be LGPL, or why they would do that.
If nothing has changed and no announcement has been made and nobody has
asked them then I don't see a reason to think that the licensing has
changed.

I'd rather have Galeon there. Fits nicely in Gnome, and is usable(unlike
Epiphany).
Though FireBird would be a nice addition as well.

Trying to find fedora-extra
by Troy Dawson
Howdy,
I'm having a hard time finding the official fedora-extra site, area, or
mailling list.
I've seen it mentioned here several times, and everyone acts like they know
where it is, but no-one has said where it is. It certainly isn't on the web
pages, or at least not on someplace obvious on the web pages.
Is it something like fedora-legacy, something that RedHat has planned but wich
they won't touch with a 10 foot pole?
Troy
