Hi: On 9 Feb my f38 system was updated from kwin 5.27.4 to 5.27.10 and I started seeing popups and minor hesitations linked to graphics resets. I haven't found a reliable way to reproduce them. Today I downgraded kwin-x11 etc back to 5.27.4, and opening Firefox still gave the popup. nVidia 470xx from rpmfusion, MythTV master.
Google finds lots of years-old hits, including kde bug 385324, and a suggestion to retoggle kwin with Alt/Shift/f12, but this behaviour was new to me. Any comments or suggestions?
TIA
John P

What graphics card do you have that requires the nvidia 470 driver? There are lots of issues with the driver with KDE prior to 515 regardless of the graphics system used.

Using thr rpmfusion nvidia howto command line:
/sbin/lspci | grep VGA
GK208B Geforce GT 710
kernel 6.7.5, driver 470.223.02-2

What's the CPU and the board in there? Is there integrated graphics that could be used?

It's an old system: HP Compaq dc5800 MT, 2x Core2Duo e8200 @2.66 GHz, 7.7 GiB Ram, VGA and HDMI outputs. I rarely use the nVidia hardware decoding and use an Android TV player (mythleanfront) for best quality video.
This new problem is a puzzle, but at present not a gamechanger.
Thanks,
John
You'd think Nouveau would handle the 710 by now. Although it's not exactly popular anymore afaik

Nouveau does handle the GT 710 reasonably okay. It's just not terribly performant unless you trigger reclocking, per this guide: https://github.com/polkaulfield/nouveau-reclocking-guide
Using nouveau instead will allow you to get off the EOL 470 driver and also be able to use Plasma Wayland.

Thanks for the suggestion. My earlier experiments with nouveau haven't come to much, but I'll see if it helps.

When I looked at the switch to nouveau there was a problem: grub didn't show the commands mentiioned in the rpmfusion nvidia howto.
I found an updated procedure at
https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/how-to-properly-revert-from-nvidia-to......
but haven't tried that because the resets seem to have gone away; and I didn't see them on another similar (but 4-core) system.
Currently I'm with kwin 5.27.10-3, driver 470.223.02-2, kernel 6.7.6-100
