Advice on upgrade
by Manoel Couder
Dear fedora-kde list,
I plan to switch from fedora 8 to fedora 10 in the next few days and I need
your advise on a few strategic matters related to kde. Until now, when I
upgraded, I usually created a brand new installation, including my user name.
I would carefully attribute the same uid and guid as in my previous
installation. I would then put my data back in the newly created /home/me and
than slowly put back in the /home/me/.kde/ directory the few config files
that I need/want (bookmarks, kopete config, kabc data, kwallet...). I really
liked the idea to start with a configuration as clean as possible, using the
default config. But this time, kde is very different.
My question is what do you advise me to do ? Should I just keep my old .kde
directory ? Can I copy just the files I really need and hope the kde4 treat
them the same way?
Thanks,
Manoel

KDE4 effects Xrender vs OpenGL
by Mark Bidewell
I was playing around with KDE 4.2 compositing settings and I tried
switching from OpenGL to Xrender. It seems as though my system
operates smoother with Xrender than OpenGL. Is there anything I
should be aware of using Xrender instead of OpenGL?
Thanks.

Does Anyone Know How to Disable PackageKit Without Uninstalling
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi Ya'all
Does anyone out there know how to disable packagekit without uninstalling it.
I've managed to disable the kde side of things, but even though I've disabled
the gnome side of things it keeps popping everytime after I've run yum.qu
Oh... While we're at it... Does anyone know if there are any bug reports /
wish list at bugzilla requesting that yum be somewhat less resource intensive?

Save Session still missing
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I just installed 4.2 from updates-testing. I can't believe there's still
no way to manually save a session, and hence make the Session Management
option "Restore from Manually Saved Session" anything more than
ornamental.

[Updates-testing] KPackage kit notifications go disappear
by Arthur Pemberton
So I have updates testing enabled on fresh install of F10 on my test
box. Mostly very nice so far. KPackagekit is in place and showed a
notification for about 5 seconds and disappeared before I had time
read it. Is this a misconfiguration? Or a bug?

Panel problems on F10
by GN
Hi Folks,
I have just upgraded to F10 and I have run into a pretty basic problem
that I cannot seem to fix.
I have a panel at the top of the screen that I cannot add anything to
nor can I remove. I have managed to confine it to only one desktop by
clicking on the round icon at the left. There is a little box with a
left pointing arrow that says menu with the mouse over it but clicking L
or R elicits no action. To the right of the round icon is the text 'Top
Panel'. It is quite large and setting it to autohide still leaves quite
a blank white strip at the top of the screen.
Can some kind soul please tell me how I can get this panel working or
remove it.
Ta.
