Dear all,
I hope this is the correct place to ask about this. I have been desperately trying to somehow install a version of KDE newer than 4.3.4 on CentOS 6.6 and during my searches, I came upon the following page:
http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/
I followed the instructions on the page (enabled EPEL and added kde.repo to /etc/yum.repos.d/) but when I try to update KDE, I get the following dependency resolution issues:
Error: Package: okular-part-4.11.2-1.el6.x86_64 (kde) Requires: libepub.so.0()(64bit) Error: Package: kdesdk-4.11.2-1.el6.noarch (kde) Requires: okteta >= 4.11.2 Available: kdesdk-okteta-4.10.2-1.el6.1.i686 (kde-i186) okteta = 4.10.2-1.el6.1 Error: samba4-common conflicts with samba-common-3.6.23-14.el6_6.x86_64 Error: Package: 6:kdeutils-minimal-4.11.2-1.el6.noarch (kde) Requires: kwallet >= 4.11.2 Available: kwallet-4.10.2-1.el6.i686 (kde-i186) kwallet = 4.10.2-1.el6 Error: Package: kde-runtime-libs-4.11.2-2.el6.x86_64 (kde) Requires: libwebp.so.4()(64bit) Error: Package: qtwebkit-2.3.3-1.el6.x86_64 (kde) Requires: libwebp.so.4()(64bit) Error: Package: okular-4.11.2-1.el6.x86_64 (kde) Requires: kio_msits = 7:4.11.2-1.el6 Available: kio_msits-5.2-5.el6.2.x86_64 (epel) kio_msits = 5.2-5.el6.2 Error: Package: nepomuk-core-4.11.2-3.el6.x86_64 (kde) Requires: libepub.so.0()(64bit) Error: Package: kdesdk-4.11.2-1.el6.noarch (kde) Requires: lokalize >= 4.11.2 Available: kdesdk-lokalize-4.10.2-1.el6.1.i686 (kde-i186) lokalize = 4.10.2-1.el6.1 You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
Considering the fact that this mailing list seems to be affiliated with the aforementioned website, I was hoping someone would be able to help me resolve this issue.

Try http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/ instead. You probably want http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/centos/6/x86_64/
I have been using this on a 32-bit laptop with SL6x for perhaps 2 years, but I don't have it actually running at the moment; I'm sending this from an SL7 box.
The libwebp.so.4 problem is newish - libwebp.so.5 seems to be what is available now, and I recall a problem with the kde-runtime package, but what I have works.

Thank you for your reply. "http://kde-redhat.sourceforge.net/" points to "http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/redhat/kde.repo". I also checked "http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/centos/kde.repo" but it is the exact same file as the redhat one. I even tried manually setting baseurl in kde.repo to "http://apt.kde-redhat.org/apt/kde-redhat/centos/6.6/x86_64/stable/" but I still get the same errors as before. What am I missing here?

I'm sorry I hadn't checked to see if the repos were the same. I suspect that trying to install the full set of kde packages will still give trouble, but enabling the testing repo might help.
I'll add this reference to a recent and related post, to bring things together.

After a yumex update session I now see only 2 non-upgradeable packages: kdegames-minimal and qjdns. The kdegames problem isn't new.
I don't think I need them, but here's the report:

I'm not clear from this if you now have a system that is largely kde > 4.10 with a few packages that won't upgrade, or if you just let yum give up without manually deselecting anything, and still have your original kde = 4.3.4 installation. There isn't much el6 traffic on this list and I'm no expert, but a selective upgrade might give you a system that will do what you want.
Actually I'm still on 4.3.4. Since I'm using the machine on a daily basis, I prefer not to do the update unless I'm sure nothing is going to break. Do you recommend I run yum update with --skip-broken?

I'm not clear from this if you now have a system that is largely kde > 4.10 with a few packages that won't upgrade, or if you just let yum give up without manually deselecting anything, and still have your original kde = 4.3.4 installation. There isn't much el6 traffic on this list and I'm no expert, but a selective upgrade might give you a system that will do what you want. _______________________________________________ kde mailing list kde@lists.fedoraproject.org https://admin.fedoraproject.org/mailman/listinfo/kde New to KDE4? - get help from http://userbase.kde.org

Actually I'm still on 4.3.4. Since I'm using the machine on a daily
basis, I prefer not to do the update unless I'm sure nothing is going to break. Do you recommend I run yum update with --skip-broken?
As I said, I'm not an expert; but I don't think skip-broken would help. Unless you really need the packages marked as 'Error' I would expect that you could update with them disabled (I use yumex for that, but gurus would use the yum cli). Or you could try it a few steps at a time. yum should keep things legitimate. But I can't recommend those actions without a BIG disclaimer. Maybe someone else could comment, but mainly this list is used by early-adopters using F22.
