An update today.
I had to install the rpmfusion drivers for the graphics acceleration
and
due to the one drive not working in Wayland, I had to use X11. As it
turns out, some of the issues I was having with GTK apps now work in
X11.
Shade works in all apps that I have tried. :)
So that would appear to be a Wayland issue, unlike the behaviour I was
commenting on originally.
