Nvidia Beta driver fails to build
by listman
The nvida beta driver fails to build on the new kernel 2.6.18-1.2784. It
was working fine previously, does anyone know of a fix yet?
I'm still running T3 with all the updates on a AMD 64bit system.
Thanks

system-config-packages
by Kwan Lowe
When running system-config-packages as a non-root user, I get a prompt "Unknown
Error" instead of the root authentication dialog. All the other tools (x-x-lvm,
x-x-network, etc) seem to work fine and prompt for root auth.

How to get updates from rawhide for FC6Pre?
by Ernest L. Williams Jr.
Hi,
I have FC6Pre and would like to synch up with rawhide.
When I run pup or yum update, I get no updates.
I have both "fedora-development.repo" and
"fedora-extras-development.repo" enabled.
What is the deal? Has there been no activity on rawhide?
Thanks,
Ernest

by Clyde E. Kunkel
Hello,
Is rawhide, as of today (20061015), the same as FC6 final?
Thanks

Working on the rawhide extras (Is it broken now?)
by Ernest L. Williams Jr.
Hi,
I was using yum install to get the Fedora extras from rawhide. I
managed to get up through the letter "c" in terms of packages.
Now, I am getting the following error:
==================================================================
[root@python yum]# yum install ddd
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Setting up Install Process
Setting up repositories
ftp://ftp.safe.ca/pub/clement-2.1/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4]
IOError: [Errno ftp error] 550 Failed to change directory.
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot open/read repomd.xml file for repository: clement
[root@python yum]#
=================================================================
Who/What by the way is clement???
Any ideas, how to work around this one?
Thanks,
Ernesto

Konqueror bug?
by Kwan Lowe
Open Konqueror with the File Manager view. Right click and select Create New, then
Link to Device, then select DVDROM or CDROM. Click on the Device Tab then enter
/dev/hdc. Click on Create. If you have a DVD/CD Writer versus just a read-only
DVD/CD, the resulting icon cannot be removed from Konqueror without giving an error.
If you right click the icon to try to edit properties, it will immediately pop up an
error dialog.
Only way to remove it is to drop to command line and rm.

Questions about system-config-* tools
by Kwan Lowe
I've been using some of the system-config-* tools under FC6T4. They all seem to use
the consolehelper application. Some questions:
1) How is the root authentication cached? I notice that the first use of the tool
requires entering the root pw, but subsequent ones do not. I would like to turn off
this feature to force root auth every time.
2) Is it possible for system-config-securitylevel-tui also prompt for root pw?
Currently it exits with "ERROR - You must be root to run lokkit."
3) When running system-config-packages as non-root, it throws an error "Unknown
Error" instead of putting up the root password dialog. Twice so far this error has
occurred when running as the root user.

/etc/inittab went away && wlan has weird device name
by Julian C. Dunn
I just did a yum update, updating to initscripts 8.31.1-1 (among other
things like a new kernel). When I rebooted, init complained that inittab
was missing, so I rebooted into rescue mode and found that there was
an /etc/inittab.rpmsave but no /etc/inittab. Has anyone else had this
problem?
Also, I'm using a Thinkpad T42 (2378RAU) and the wireless card shows up
as a weird device after boot:
dev8569 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:0E:35:FC:39:23
Does anyone know why?
- Julian
