F8 RC3 Fails on T61p
by David M Burgess
When I try to install F8 RC3 on my Lenovo T61p it fails just after the step
where I have the option to verify (or not) the DVD.
I've verified the DVD and it passes but when I proceed past this step I just
get a blue screen and it sits there. It makes no difference if I do a test
or graphical installation, verify the DVD or not. X never starts.
All previous F8 test releases have install fine on this laptop.

F8RC3 can't Coexist?
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
I disabled all but one of the drives on my office machine
and then installed RC3 x86_64 on that drive. All was
well with Fedora. The only nit was fuzzy display on a
24 inch lcd on first boot but this resolved on reboot.
I reconnected the first three drives and reinstalled RC3
on the same drive as before except it was now sdd
instead of sda. The divide error flood returned.
I changed the e2label to Fedora8 and adjusted
grub.conf and fstab but Fedora still stalled in the
storm of divide errors.
So it appears the problem is coexistience, which only
appears if a variety of other systems are installed in
various partitions on the machine.

Fedora 8 Release Candidate 3
by Jesse Keating
Fedora 8 Release Candidate 3 has been released on the torrent site
(http://torrent.fedoraproject.org). Both DVD and Live images have been
provided.
Unless something goes terribly wrong, these will be the same bits
(modulo gpg signed SHA1SUM files) that will go to the mirrors for the
final Fedora 8 release.
Happy testing!

compiz questions
by Gianluca Cecchi
I have compiz-manager in my startup session programs in rawhide. I also
installed ccsm from koji repository and it seems to flawlessly work.
How can I temporary disable/re-enable compiz-manager in case I want to run
OpenGL intensive applications?
Tipically with my Nvidia 6600 le in glxgears I get these fps values
3335 with compiz and 3926 without it in default window
191 with compiz and 341 without it in full screen (1280x1024 24 bit)
When compiz is running he processes are:
[testuser2@tekkaman ~]$ ps -ef|grep compiz
502 2965 2791 0 Nov03 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh
/usr/bin/compiz-manager
502 3071 2965 0 Nov03 ? 00:02:59 /usr/bin/compiz
--ignore-desktop-hints --replace --loose-binding ccp
Also, I found that I can rotate the cube with Ctrl+Alt+mouse only if I begin
the operation with the pointer over a window, while it does not work when it
is on the background.
Is it a bug to report upstream? Any other with the same issue?

having a problem building the 2.6.231-44.fc8.src.rpm kernel
by Scott Berry
Hello there guys,
I just tried building a modified Fedora kernel because I need to add dazuko.
But the problem I am seeing is the following:
sparc64-sump.config

RPM build errors:
[root@localhost SPECS]#
Now I am following a how to that is for FC4 which I know is a bit out of
date but I think except for a few things it works. Here is the link of the
how to:
http://www.dazuko.de/files/dazuko-
And here are the spec file and the config which is an i686 config. Can some
one point me to what might be happening? My feeling is that some of the
items in the kernel have changed and I am unsure where to find them.

FC8RC3 fails to start on Intel Motherboard
by Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX
I downloaded RC3 despite Comcast's best efforts. DVD verified,
gpaphical install uneventful. I selected format for both root and swap.
RC3 x86_64 on an Intel DG33BU motherboard, Core Duo,
and 7950gt pci-e video.
default boot still hangs after nash announces itself.
Boot without "quiet" shows the same divide error interrupts
as previously reported. On a hunch, I added "noresume" to
the loader command. The check for resume was skipped
but Fedora still went into divide error interrupt spasms.
I downloaded the live Fedora. Unfortunately the ISO
is specified for a CD but is too big to fit. Nero refuses
to burn it on a DVD.
