f10 installation using qemu-img/qemu-kvm from the shell
by Kashyap Chamarthy
Hi folks,
so has any one seen this weird behaviour, or is it me ?
what I'm trying to do : Install an F10 virtual machine via qemu-kvm . (from
the shell) . On a lenovo X200 running F10.
How : I used the below
#sudo qemu-img create -f qcow2 f10.qcow2 10G
#sudo qemu-kvm -m 1024 -boot d -cdrom /export/isos/F10-i686-Live.iso -hda
f10.qcow2 -localtime
Here,I did an install on hard drive, once all the packages are installed, it
fails to reboot(the screen blacks out). Now I try to invoke the VM via
#sudo qemu-kvm fedora10.qcow2
Result : the below error is what I'm thrown.
-----------------------------
could not detect stabilization, waiting 10 seconds
Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while
found volume group "volgroup00" using metadata type lvm2
unable to access resume device (/dev/VolGroup00/LogVo101)
mount: error mounting /dev/root on /sysroot as ext3 : no such file or

Other Info:
(1) I booted into "single" user mode, and my /etc/fstab says the below
---------------------------------------

(2) KVM version: kvm-74-10.fc10.i386
Does anyone see anything weird here??
Please let me know if any other information is required.

yum update from F10 to rawhide
by M A Young
A lot of people seem to have been having trouble with using yum to update
from F10 to rawhide, so I thought I would try it. My tests were as follows
1. yum update (still in F10, checking afterwards that I have at least
rpm-4.6.0-1.fc10.x86_64)
2. yum update --enablerepo=rawhide
This fails, due to a couple of packages that don't have F11 versions, the
errors ending with
audit-libs-python-1.7.12-3.fc10.x86_64 from installed has depsolving
problems
--> Missing Dependency: python(abi) = 2.5 is needed by package
audit-libs-python-1.7.12-3.fc10.x86_64 (installed)
python-psycopg2-2.0.9-1.fc10.x86_64 from installed has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: libpython2.5.so.1.0()(64bit) is needed by
package python-psycopg2-2.0.9-1.fc10.x86_64 (installed)
python-psycopg2-2.0.9-1.fc10.x86_64 from installed has depsolving problems
--> Missing Dependency: python(abi) = 2.5 is needed by package
python-psycopg2-2.0.9-1.fc10.x86_64 (installed)
Error: Missing Dependency: libpython2.5.so.1.0()(64bit) is needed by
package python-psycopg2-2.0.9-1.fc10.x86_64 (installed)
Error: Missing Dependency: python(abi) = 2.5 is needed by package
python-psycopg2-2.0.9-1.fc10.x86_64 (installed)
Error: Missing Dependency: python(abi) = 2.5 is needed by package
audit-libs-python-1.7.12-3.fc10.x86_64 (installed)
The problem for both of these packages (python-psycopg2 and
audit-libs-python) is that F10 version > rawhide version
3. rpm -e python-psycopg2 audit-libs-python
error: Failed dependencies:
python-psycopg2 is needed by (installed)
TurboGears-1.0.8-1.fc10.noarch
audit-libs-python is needed by (installed)
setroubleshoot-server-2.0.12-3.fc10.noarch
audit-libs-python >= 1.2.6-3 is needed by (installed)
setroubleshoot-server-2.0.12-3.fc10.noarch
audit-libs-python >= 1.4.2-1 is needed by (installed)
policycoreutils-2.0.57-17.fc10.x86_64
4. rpm -e python-psycopg2 audit-libs-python --nodeps
(Having checked by the previous command that we aren't going to break
anything too important - rpm works because we haven't installed anything
from rawhide yet)
5. yum update --enablerepo=rawhide --disablerepo=updates
(if we don't turn off updates the F10 versions of python-psycopg2 and
audit-libs-python will try to come back and confuse things)
This ends with the error
Transaction Check Error:
package audit-libs-1.7.12-3.fc10.x86_64 (which is newer than
audit-libs-1.7.12-2.fc11.i586) is already installed
file /etc/libaudit.conf from install of audit-libs-1.7.12-2.fc11.i586
conflicts with file from package audit-libs-1.7.12-3.fc10.x86_64
6. rpm -e audit audit-libs --nodeps
(A bit risky, because this might break a few things, but nothing directly
related to the upgrade)
7. yum update --enablerepo=rawhide --disablerepo=updates
This works.
So it is possible to upgrade from F10 to rawhide if you are careful, and
any problems are because rawhide is lagging a bit behind F10 updates,
presumably because of the beta freeze.

duplicity-0.5.12-1.fc9 (FEDORA-2009-2926)
Encrypted bandwidth-efficient backup using rsync algorithm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
- bug #25838: Backup fails / ncftp - remote file already exists. With this fix
we also get resume in ftp get/put. If a put or get fails part of the way
through, ncftp will resume on the next retry. - bug #25853: duplicity fails
with boto passwords coming from ~/.boto - patch #6773: Make user name optional
in rsync backend - GPG errors will no longer cause tracebacks, but will produce
a log entry, from gpg, similar to the following: ===== Begin GnuPG log =====
gpg: BAD0BAD0: skipped: public key not found gpg: [stdin]: encryption failed:
public key not found ===== End GnuPG log ===== This will let the user know
what really caused the GPG process to fail, and what really caused errors like
'broken pipe'. - Add Epydoc output to web site and start adding documentation:
http://duplicity.nongnu.org/epydoc/index.html - bug #25787: Usernames with
@-sign are not handled properly - bug #333057: GnuPGInterface prints exit
statuses incorrectly - bug #25696: ncftp error w/0.5.09 -- nested target
directories - bug #15664: When restoring backup: "OverflowError: long int too
large to convert to int" - patch #6761: More robust pexpect handling of SSH
authentication - patch #6762: Wrong exit() used for 2.3/2.4 Python - The
default filename format has changed from W3 style to a long numeric style,
YYYYMMDDTHHMMSSZ, with no delimiters, thus is now compatible with Windows/Samba
filesystems. The time is UTC, not local, so there will be no timezone or
daylight savings time issues. Duplicity still recognizes the old long filename
format, and will continue incremental backup chains if found. The old format is
still available via the --old-filenames option (pending deprecation). - Users
of --short-filenames or --time-separator should stop using these options on

FTP is now driven with pexpect rather than NcFTP utilities. This closes the
following bugs (and solves other problems). - bug #24741: ncftpls -x '' causes
failure on Yahoo FTP server - bug #23516: duplicity/ncftpget not closing
unlinked files, ... - bug #25509: Logic error in imapbackend.py [IMAP_SERVER]

equal, different volume numbers" - patch #6729: New imap backend. Replaces
current gmail backend - patch #6730: Fix timing out for SSH backend - patch
#6733: Improve error handling in imapbackend.py - Increase default volume size
(--volsize) to 25M from 5M. This reduces the number of volumes to accomodate
larger backups. - Reworked patch 6701 to list collection one at a time rather
than writing all as one huge list. Was causing memeory problems when the
collections got large. - Fix backendtest.py so that empty URL's in config.py
cause the backend test to be skipped rather than erroring. Added notes in
config.py.tmpl explaining the change. - Original fix to disallow use of
ncftpput 3.2.0 mistyped the ErrorCode used and resulted in an error rather than
an explanation.

papyrus-0.11.0-1.fc9 (FEDORA-2009-2922)
Cairo based C++ scenegraph library
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
Like most releases this release contains a little of everything... a few new
features... some new optimizations... some bug fixes. In the new features
category are the freeze()/thaw() methods added to Drawable. You can try them out
in the demo which includes an example. In coordination with the introduction of
the freeze()/thaw() methods the boolean redraw parameter on all the Drawable
affine transform methods has been removed. Rather than adding this parameter per
function call, you can now enclose a group of function calls with a freeze/thaw
pair. In the bug fix category there are a number of items submitted by Tim
Niemueller. These include a fix that prevented the Canvas from drawing it's
background and several instances of invalid list iterators in Drawable's
external matrices that caused segfaults. In the area of optimizations Drawable
now handles external matrix changed signals through a reference counted system
rather than the older one-connection-per-added-matrix. This should improve
things if a matrix is added multiple times to a drawable at the same or
different levels.

full and incremental backups with the options to preform a backup with out
updating the time stamp, or to backup to a different directory or device at
will. Backup-light also creates MD5sums of the backup archives for added
security.

duplicity-0.5.12-1.fc10 (FEDORA-2009-2950)
- Users
of --short-filenames or --time-separator should stop using these options on
their next full backup. The new filenames are compatible with your system. -
The following options are pending deprecation and will be removed in a future
release: - --time-separator - --short-filenames - --old-filenames -
bug #19988: Incompatibility to Samba/SMB share - bug #25097: Allow listing
files from any time, not just current time - bug #25550: Error codes do not
propagate from log to exit status - bug #25308: Signatures orphaned if from
another time zone - bug #229826: duplicity crashed with ValueError in port() -
FTP is now driven with pexpect rather than NcFTP utilities. This closes the
following bugs (and solves other problems). - bug #24741: ncftpls -x '' causes
failure on Yahoo FTP server - bug #23516: duplicity/ncftpget not closing
unlinked files, ... - bug #25509: Logic error in imapbackend.py [IMAP_SERVER]
- bug #25512: [Patch] Retry on Imap failure - bug #25530: commandline passwd
not working - bug #25293: IOError: [Errno 22] Invalid argument - bug #25379:
sys.exit() causes traceback and should not - bug #25403: 0.5.06 "manifests not
equal, different volume numbers" - patch #6729: New imap backend. Replaces
current gmail backend - patch #6730: Fix timing out for SSH backend - patch

Safe and flexible file-system backup/deployment tool
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
Update to new upstream release (0.4.5): * Bug fix: empty files must not be
copied with small files, and there is no need to write the checksum * Bug fix:
commands with big output were blocking until the pipe was read which was never
done (thanks to Setsuna) * Bug fix: show all the restored files at restfs
including the small files which are compressed in a single block * Added
optimized management of small files (several small files data in a single
compressed block) * Bug fix: only umount the partitions that have been mounted
by fsarchiver at the end of an operation * Option '-a' allows users to run
savefs on a mounted partition when the mount options for acl/xattr are not used

papyrus-0.11.0-1.fc10 (FEDORA-2009-2934)
Cairo based C++ scenegraph library
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Information:
Like most releases this release contains a little of everything... a few new
features... some new optimizations... some bug fixes. In the new features
category are the freeze()/thaw() methods added to Drawable. You can try them out
in the demo which includes an example. In coordination with the introduction of
the freeze()/thaw() methods the boolean redraw parameter on all the Drawable
affine transform methods has been removed. Rather than adding this parameter per
function call, you can now enclose a group of function calls with a freeze/thaw
pair. In the bug fix category there are a number of items submitted by Tim
Niemueller. These include a fix that prevented the Canvas from drawing it's
background and several instances of invalid list iterators in Drawable's
external matrices that caused segfaults. In the area of optimizations Drawable
now handles external matrix changed signals through a reference counted system
rather than the older one-connection-per-added-matrix. This should improve
things if a matrix is added multiple times to a drawable at the same or
different levels.
