Repeated Kernel Oopses (WiFi)
by Christopher A Williams
This has been rather annoying on my laptop, but I am getting constant
kernel oopses with my WiFi and broadband adapters. This is on a ThinkPad
T400. It usually happens when I connect or disconnect USB devices, which
includes my broadband adapter. A trace from an example happening with my
WiFi adapter is below.
Anyone else having these issues, or is it just me and something I may or
may not have done?
Cheers,
Chris

Question regarding rawhide reports
by Antonio Olivares
Dear fellow testers,
I know this has been mentioned before, but I can't seem to understand why the change.
1) I was used to seeing the missing deps or build failures at the end, now they are at the beginning :(. If I remember correctly David (Boles) responded in a message to why was this changed, but I missed it completely as my mind was somewhere else at the time.
At first since before these
Compose started at Fri Sep 11 06:15:04 UTC 2009
Broken deps for i386

****
were listed at the end so I tried to update and apply the new updates, when I saw this before, I knew that there were no updates :), but now the updates are listed below these broken deps :(, so I do have to scroll down to see if there are updates. On three machines which I run rawhide, I did not update in several days because of this, but then I saw a question regarding a 2.6.31 kernel(has been released upstream and also apparently released on a rawhide report this week), because of this I missed it :(
Q) Why were the broken deps moved to the top?
It confused me and I now have to see the size of the message to see if it is more than normal when there are no updates.
I got used to seeing NEW PACKAGES, then the updated packages and at the end the Broken deps report, now I see the Broken Deps, the new packages and the updated packages below. Why the change and all of a sudden?
If there was an announcement about this, I totally missed it and I accept responsibility for the confusion :)
Regards,
Antonio

Fedora 12 Beta Release Notes: How you can help
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
The Beta release notes is a important source of information for our
users, testers, ambassadors, even fellow developers and press for that
release. So I am asking you all to help you a bit. Here is how:
I have "open sourced" my process of finding information and my notes and
copied over all that information to
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_12_Beta_release_notes
If you don't have much time, take one item in this list and add more
information. I will also help you avoid even clicking on a link and copy
the same information below:
Quick notes:
* Hybrid ISO - earlier revision in Alpha release notes history. Confirm
that it works well before adding it here
* Status of http://www.ing.unibs.it/openfwwf/ in Fedora? How well does
it work?
* Moblin - Explain in detail with potentially a screencast
* GNOME Shell - Ogg Screencast possibly with voice over
* Yum Presto - In GNOME and KDE groups. What about delta rpm generation?
* http://live.gnome.org/GTK%2B/ClientSideWindows - Eclipse and Adobe
Reader needs a workaround
* Abrt - whats the status?
* Anaconda MDRaid - Explain in detail
* Lower Process Capabilities
* Contact KDE SIG and gather important changes. Phonon has changed to
gstreamer backend in Alpha release and was not mentioned. So call it out
in the Beta release.
Additional sources:
* Look at F11 Preview release notes and use it as a template. It matches
the beta this release because of rel eng decision to tweak the release
process a bit
* Read rawhide reports in between alpha and beta release for new
packages as well as import changes worth noting here
* Quickly skimp through all threads in fedora-devel and fedora-test list
for note worthy changes
* Read Planet Fedora and reference developer blogs when important
changes are mentioned
* Consult with QA team and make sure note worth issues are mentioned. If
anything needs explicit testing, highlight it
* More details at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/12/FeatureList. Read the release
notes section of each of the approved feature
Thanks.

Some problems after most recent "yum update" in F12 alpha
by Joachim Backes
I'm running F12 alpha inside VirtualBox. After a "yum update" tomorrow
having problems with the X-server if rebooting my box:
X starts until some point. Then I get a login screen, but when I type
in my username and password I get a blank screen with a spinning
cursor never ending. No desktop is started. Seems to be a Xserver
problem with the Vbox graphics adapter.
Then I tried "yum downgrade xorg-x11-server-Xorg", but this was rejected
with the message that only updates are possible, but no downgrades.
No "yum downgrade <package>" in F12 alpha?
Somebody made similar experiences?

Fedora 11 EFI installation issue.
by chen caedmon
hi, I saw http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/EFI, it said it support
EFI installation , so i download a iso from
http://fedoraproject.org/en/get-fedora , then i burn a DVD with the iso.
i try to install it in EFI way :
1. in EFI front page choose "Boot
manger"
2. then in "boot option menu "
choose "EFI DVD/CDROM"
then i will return the step 2("boot option menu " page ), i failed to
detect it in EFI way .
is there any other ISO special for EFI installation ?or another method
to install FC11 in EFI way?
Thanks for help!~

mixing x86_64 and i686 packages???
by Rob Healey
Greetings:
This my first time having a 64bit system, so I am a newbie here as far as
x86_64 goes, but not with Linux. Fedora/ Redhat in particular!!!
I have noticed that there are a lot of software out there for Fedora, but
some of it is only i686! Like Opera and Adobe Reader in particular... They
list a ton of i686 dependencies when trying to install them. Is it ok to
mix x86_64 and i686 on the same system???
Sincerely yours,
Rob G. Healey
