As far as I remember there was always support for running

Now one of my bug reports has been closed because I am not using a

report:

Could someone please clarify?
we want to make it possible to have your own kernel running. That
doesn't mean we can or are going to make the distro work with just any
random kernel config combo (just try compiling out UNIX domain sockets
or tcp/ip ... it's not reasonable to expect our distro to work fully
with that ;). Bugs on such own kernels that look like they are kernel
related should really be reproduced with a fedora kernel first.
